Turns out my install disc was windows 8, display adapter did show up in device manager but it was microsoft basic. tried more tricks while 8.1 downloaded, to no avail. Then installed 8.1, display adapters disappeared. sigh. I think I am resigned to isntalling windows 10, I do like windows 10 but it doesnt run windows media center. one of the better products they have and they had to kill it.

It lists nothing which is very odd. I tried GPU-Z on a board with no vid drivers and it came back with info in GPU and device ID but many others were blank. After looking at Intel website found the GPU is a 500 series (505 iirc).
Try this driver: https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=C2N7T
after download run it and extract the contents to a HD folder and then run the setup.
it supports Win7, 8, 10 and Intel HD 500/600 series and was released August 2017. It may work if lucky or at least get you closer....
