Author: MrSilver
Subject: 85184
Posted: 10 Dec 2024 at 11:45am

Hi all!

Unfortunately after finally getting around to updating the BIOS on my Z790 Nova WiFi , I?™ve now got some cool whine on the MB.

Bios 7.01

Took me a while to narrow down the culprit but it is indeed the MB.
Before the bios update it never made a sound, now in games (though not under stress testing) the coil whine is loud enough to be irritating, it ranges in pitch and flutters. There?™s also a slight buzz at idle on desktop.

After applying the BIOS update I replaced my previous setting with my PL levels ect and my Core offset voltage I?™d previously run. All is stable .. I?™ve tried all kinds of settings reverting to baselines ect but the whine remains now.

I narrowed it down to the MB /cpu power ,once I realised that changing the power state (operation) in the phantom gaming app to power saving from standard eliminated the while /buzz but unfortunately tanks my frame considerably.

Any help as to what?™s changed in my new bios? A power value hidden away? Something with the VRMs?
Everything was wonderful before , I had no issues but was advised to update bios, really wish I hadn?™t now.

Asrock z790 nova wifi
4070 ti super
96gb Kingston renegade @ 6400 (xmp1)
