Author: GaryGazza
Subject: 8527
Posted: 27 Apr 2018 at 12:38pm

Was having issues with my computer freezing randomly in both Windows and BIOS. Unplugged my SSD from the MOBO loaded up the BIOS and didn't experience freezing for about 5-10 minutes, thought i'd found the culprit for the freezing so decided i'd proceed to update the bios whilst I was there. Well turned out that was a terrible move because the SSD wasn't the culprit and the computer froze mid BIOS update and now when my computer boots the fan spins but nothing else loads and there is no output to the monitor. I've tried resetting the CMOS, pretty sure i've done it right but to no avail so i'm thinking my BIOS is probably corrupt.

Was hoping for some advice, is it possible to force a bios update somehow? Ive tried loading a USB drive with the bios update file and booting but had no luck. Am I going to need a new chip from ASRock? Also wondering how easily the BIOS chip on this board can be replaced if at all. As for the original freezing issues I'm thinking maybe a bad ram stick could have been causing it, once I get it up and running again I still need to solve the original issues. I'm thinking i'll test one ram stick at a time and if that's not fixing maybe it's the CPU? I don't currently have a GPU installed and one PCI slot is used for a wifi card. I'll post my parts list below in case that helps. Thanks in advance for the help I sure do need it.

ASRock B250M Pro4 LGA1151

Intel Pentium G4560 3.5Ghz Dual-Core CPU

2 x HyperX Fury Black 4GB DDR4 2133 Memory

Samsung 850 Evo-Series 2.5" 500GB SSD

Corsair - CXM 450W 80+ Bronze Semi-Modular ATX power supply

TP-Link - TL-WDN4800 PCI-Express Wi-fi Adaptor

Edited by GaryGazza - 27 Apr 2018 at 12:53pm
