So i'm fearlessly update/try new bioses, and if i don't like it ican downgrade previous bios without thrill. No need to send the motherboard for RMA and wait to come back, or request new chip if something happens again.
i feel like ihave a superpower

Edited by maktama - 07 May 2018 at 3:27pm

The socketed ROM is a nice feature. I've found ASRock Europe tech support very helpful in the past as they sent me a replacement ROM programmed with the BIOS I needed. You just have to ask them nicely! It's much cheaper and simpler than an RMA of the motherboard.

Last february, i did bios update from 3.10 to 3.60 and then 4.40, and black screen on constant reboot welcome me when restarted. And i don't have a warranty for this motherboard(it was test/editorial sample which i bought from someone in my country)

i searched the forums and saw lots of people had this problem with bios. So i want to flash bios on myself, and bought aprogrammer from aliexpress, and 1.8v converter.

i finally could flash the rom to the AB350 Gaming-ITX/ac bios chip Macronix MX25U12873F (relatively new chip, and easily removable because it's socketed),with the SkyGz's software CH341A programmer v1.31(not quite that, i'm going to explain in a moment). MX25U12873F chip is 1.8V, 16MB/128MBit.

Actually Ch341A Programmer v1.31 is paid version but also which happen to came with free program also (namely CH341AFree v1.4) in the package that has less userfriendly properties; just have 3 choices -24EEPROM, -25SPI/FLASH and -chip size/speed( like 1MB/8MBit to 16MB/128MBit).

i used virtual WinXP working on vmware, CH341A MinProgrammer hardware(aliexpress product , "CH341A Programment" and " CH341A Pro" writes on blackpcb), 1.8v adapter(green pcb, from also aliexpress ) and soc8 test clip(thak you aliexpress : ) ) to hold the chip easily. Total cost is 6-7$.

The SkyGz's "Ch341 Programmer" v1.29 and v1.30 didn't write properly i presume, because couldn't verify(exit in half with error) the chip which was written by itself.

In v1.31 free version, just selected "25 SPI FLASH" and "16MB/128MBit" choices, can erase the chip and writes the rom perfectly, then verified. Also could read the rom in chip which completely same with the original rom.

And my computer works now.

So, in the end you don't need for new chip when bios went corrupt, just have to rewrite it.

Edited by maktama - 04 May 2018 at 8:25pm
