    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://forum.asrock.com/member_profile.asp?PF=6802">VUMeter</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 8932<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 14 Jun 2018 at 11:36pm<br /><br /><a href="" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"></a>Overclock mode in BIOS sets a frequency and voltage - this is fixed.&nbsp; You are disabling the automatic behaviour of the system, which is to drop frequency (go into higher P-state numbers) and thus also drop voltage when not doing anything.<div><br></div><div>It'll use 1.35v all the time if that's what it is set to, but current will decrease massively when the CPU is a lower loading on the CPU.</div><div><div><br></div><div>P-State overclocking is taking setting the voltage and frequency for particular states the CPU can be in, and therefor allows for a lower voltage when in a lesser P-state (higher number).&nbsp; P-0 is flat out all cores under full load.</div><div><br></div><div>You seem to indicate that you've kept XFR enabled?&nbsp; This might very well boost the CPU and pull in more current for other sensors/controls on the CPU.&nbsp; It's a really complicated bit of kit that little chip, and there are things on there that get disabled when you put it into overclock mode, but stay enabled when not.&nbsp; It could be these that are drawing extra power/creating extra heat.</div></div>]]>

When I use P-states to achieve my 3.9ghz OC, temps while under Prime95 load tend to produce a few degrees C increase at the top end.&nbsp; Of course, I have it set to also turbo up to 4ghz too, but that doesn't seem to happen when running Prime95.&nbsp; <br><br>If I use the ASRock settings feature instead of P-states, I set the voltage to 1.35v at 3.9ghz.&nbsp; This means rather than adjusting when there is no load, it will stay at 3.9ghz, no turbo either.&nbsp;<div><br></div><div>I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this, why would the P-state OC cause it to produce a tad bit more heat if they're both set to 1.35v with the same frequency?</div><div><br></div><div>Also, I have the EK supremacy EVO cpu water block with a 280mm &amp; 360mm rad for cooling.</div><div><br></div><div>BIOS version 4.4.&nbsp;</div>]]>
