No dr debug codes, no cpu (liquid cooling) fan. Is this normal or should I assume the board is the culprit?

    Author: Bear
Subject: 9034
Posted: 27 Jun 2018 at 7:06pm

Hello everyone!

Built a system using taichi x399. All components are brand new. Removed everything except the cpu and cooler & removed the board from the case for debugging. 24 pin is connected & power cable for cpu cooler is connected. If to believe the sticker on the board then fw is 1.5

I get the following symptoms:

a) both 8 pin and 4 pin cpu cable connected - the psu clicks when i try to turn on the system and that's it. No fans. Nothing. No further attempts possible until psu has been powered off / on again. Sounds like a short circuit protection mechanism kicking in if you ask me but then again, I'm no expert.

*4 pin connector is connected with the latch on the right.

b) just 8 pin connected - fans start, debug display stops at c0 and a reboot cycle starts. As I understand, this is perfectly normal as this board requires both 4 pin and 8 pin? I have read contradicting statements about it though, so any further information is most welcome.

Both cables are cpu cables as far as i know i.e 8pin-2x4pin

What should I try next? Sounds like a problem with the cpu or socket but i really wouldn't want to remove the cooler & cpu before I have ruled out other options.

It's my first build so I suppose we should consider all possible rookie mistakes
