Author: rado84
Subject: 93911
Posted: 31 Jan 2025 at 2:25am

I've been using AsRock for over 10 years but so far I never needed any support or forum. Well, I still don't need those, I came here just to write some feedback about the latest BIOS update of an AsRock motherboard - Z790 Pro RS. I couldn't find a feedback form in the main support site nor on this forum and since the motherboard is with an intel chip, I figured this would be the best place to post my feedback in the hopes that AsRock staff will read it and fix the problems.

My feedback is about the latest BIOS/UEFI update from 15th January (version 16.02). With that firmware my CPU is idling at 37°-40°C which is ridiculous. I know the CPU (i7-12700F) can handle much more than that but here's the deal: with version 15.01 the CPU idles at steady 30°C. With both firmware versions both turbo settings are enabled.
On top of that temperature problem, version 16.02 takes too long to install and the computer reboots a few times before the user is able to enter setup. Here's a comparison:
??updating from the firmware the mobo came with (v14.01) to 15.01 - that process took about 20 seconds, after which I was able to enter setup and make my settings.
??updating from v15.01 to v16.02 took rougly about 3 minutes during which time the computer was at black screen for too long. At some point the computer starts rebooting a few times, like 4-5 times and just when you think you have bricked your mobo, it finally starts normally and you're able to enter setup. And then you see the surprise - on the HW Monitor page you see the CPU idling at 37°C, so you make your fans settings the same as they were in v15.01 but that doesn't change anything, it even makes things works and the temperature climbs to 40°C.
??I also noticed that with v16.02 the videocard (RTX 3060 12GB - not Ti) is idling a little hotter than it's supposed to be. 45°C when doing nothing (browsing the internet) vs 33-35°C with v15.01. I always set the GPU fans to run at 35% speed because I hate the Zero RPM function. These two different idle temperatures are with 35% fan speed with the respective BIOS firmware versions.

Since nothing helped cooling the CPU down to the normal temperature of 30°C, I downgraded the BIOS/UEFI to v15.01 and when I entered setup, the CPU was idling at 30°C. It's at that temperature even now, a few hours later while watching a movie.

Bottom line: v16.02 has a lot of problems not worth the update. In any case I think they should be fixed. But for the moment I think I'd stick to v15.01 because it works perfectly for my system.
