For the z370 Pro4: The two Ultra M.2 Sockets (M2_1 and M2_2) will each have 4x PCIe if you do not use the SATA ports 0 and 5. There are up to 24 lanes from the z370 PCH and the M2 do not share share with each other, they share only with the 2 SATA ports. Similar to how slot PCIe4 shares with PCIe5 and the PCI slot ("If PCIE5 slot or PCI slot is occupied, PCIE4 slot will run at x2 mode.")

I know, I will lose 2 sata port from the 6, but who cares. My question about the PCIE lines. If I use 1 M.2 NVme based ssd, it can use pcie 3.0 x4 lines. That's okey, but what happens if I use a second one? Each of them has an own x4 pcie lines or the setup will be x2-x2?

MSI has a proper and clear table for this situation, which said if I put the second ssd into M.2 ports, which would like to use PCIE lines, I can't use a physical x4 port(separated) on the motherboard.

You misunderstood what he said:

You only have a limiteed amount of lanes your mainboard can use for communication. Thus M.2 and Sata share communication lines. if your board has NVme ports they will be NVme speeds but if you use them u loose some SATA ports

Check the Mainboard Manuals M.2 section it will explain wich Speeds are supported

I'm interested in PCIE lanes instead of sata. I want to use 2 samsung 970 evo ssd, they needed PCIE lanes. Sata port speed not enough for these.

They share lanes with the SATA ports. If using M.2 the corresponding SATA ports must be vacant. Hi Guys,

M.2 slots have own PCIE lanes or they share a common one?

If i put 2 nvme ssd into the M.2 slots, can I reach the maximum speed (x4) for both of them at the same time, or they will share the PCIE lanes (x2-x2) ?
