It had debug code 99 (Initialize BIOS data area) and confirmed the issue. The support engineer flashed the UEFI using the connector on the board and resolved the issue just when I finished my coffee in their canteen. The RAID0 set was undamaged, everything is restored. I'm very satisfied by the excellent support from ASRock. Next time I rather use the Instant Flash [F6] and run a back-up before I do, just in case. Thank you all for your advise.

I always use instant flash from within the UEFI, just to be as safe as possible.

All you can do now is send in the board to be repaired/replaced, it should still be under warranty. You can start the process with ASRock Tech Support or your place of purchase. The only other alternative is a ROM programmer with the right clamp for your BIOS chip. Unfortunately your board does not seem to have a socketed BIOS chip so getting a replacement BIOS ROM isn't an option.

Either way, I am sorry that it didn't work out for you and good luck getting it fixed

    Author: Bokkem
Subject: 9765
Posted: 27 Sep 2018 at 1:20am

As you suggested, I remove the GPU and connect one LCD to onboard HDMI port. I remove power cord and drain PSU by holding power button for 10sec. I place jumper on CLRCMOS1 and count to 10 again and remove the jumper. Connect the power and turn on PC.

No screen. No keyboard (NUMLOCK does not light the led). No beeps.

My power is running and the fans are spinning, I hear my DVD drive spin up, but no POST.

The LAN port is showing a green power led and blinking amber data led.

I connect LCD to VGA port, same.

Now I die a little bit inside.

Next I power down and follow instructions from Asrock techsupport as received by email.

Removed all USB, LAN and all SATA and M.2 drives. Again I clear the CMOS and boot:

No screen. No beeps.

Again I put the jumper on the CLRCMOS1, I remove CMOS battery, although I know already it's not a faulty BIOS setting. I place CMOS battery back after 15 minutes and remove the jumper and power on.

Same.

I cannot believe it. For the first time in 30 years working with PC my worst nightmare comes true: a BIOS flash bricked a totally fine PC. I cannot understand why. I flashed hundreds of BIOS, I have done nothing wrong. Why did this happen?

My current BIOS version is 1.80
I run AFUWINGUIx64.EXE, I load ASRock.ROM and start the flash. The tool starts to READ, ERASE, PROCESS, VERIFY and is finished.

I restart the PC, but now my display does not power on and the screen stays black.
I wait 5 minutes and shut down PC by pressing power button. I wait 1 minute and power on computer. Still no video on LCD screen. No beeps. No USB keyboard led.

Please advise how to proceed. Should I clear the CMOS by using the jumper on mainpcb? I use external PCIe Nvidia GTX 1080 GFX card with two LCD display connected to it (displayport). Should I connect a LCD screen to the onboard video connector to get video?

I am very worried, but I hope you can advise me. I'm a skilled IT engineer. Before BIOS flash everything was working perfect. I flash BIOS because of CPU microcode update (Spectre/Meltdown security patch). BIOS flash process completed successfully. Problem started after reboot.
