Author: Xaltar
Subject: BIOS version naming explained
Posted: 13 Feb 2026 at 5:35pm

BIOS revision numbers tend to follow in house naming conventions.

For example, 4.00 introduces a new AGESA version and microcode for new CPU support and serves as a bridge version.

4.01 is then the BIOS version that will be used.

4.03 introduces bug fixes/improved timings and voltages then

4.10 introduces another new AGESA code but not new microcode (new CPU support) then

5.01 introduces both a new AGESA as well as new CPU support.

Just an example but it illustrates the basic logic behind the naming. Skipping a number, like I skipped 4.02, is usually because multiple beta BIOSes were in development, often with different AGESA revisions (same version, different revisions) and the best one was chosen to make into a final release candidate. This is why we often see multiple numbers skipped. This applies to all manufacturers but the naming conventions will vary. It is worth noting that with ASRock X.00 is typically a bridge BIOS version with X.01 and onward being normal updates. Not every ?GESA version update requires a bridge BIOS version so we don't always see an X.00 version.

Hopefully this clarifies things a little.

    Author: SamJeffcott
Subject: How to get out of my Bios screen
Posted: 18 Aug 2025 at 7:01pm

Hi Gary,

It sounds like your PC is stuck in the BIOS due to either a hardware issue or a corrupted BIOS setting. Here are a few steps you can try to get out of the BIOS screen:

Save and Exit:

Look for an option like ?Save Changes and Exit??or press the designated key (usually F10) to save defaults and restart.

Reset CMOS:

Turn off your PC and unplug it.

Open the case and locate the CMOS battery on your motherboard.

Remove it for about 5??0 minutes, then put it back.

This resets your BIOS to factory defaults and can help get you out of the loop.

Check Your Hardware:

Sometimes a faulty RAM stick or GPU can cause BIOS to freeze. Try removing non-essential components and see if it boots.

Update or Reflash BIOS:

If the above steps don?t work, you may need to update your BIOS. Check your motherboard manufacturer?s website for instructions.

Safe Boot Option:

Some BIOS screens allow you to choose a safe boot or boot override. This can let the system boot from your OS drive directly.

Make sure to take note of your BIOS settings if you?ve customized anything, and proceed carefully with hardware changes.

Hopefully one of these steps will help you get back into Windows!

I have a question about the A-Tuning software. After I tested the fans I got an unusual result with my 3 Artic 120mm fans- they ramped up RPMs at each 10% interval but at 100% the rpms are significantly less than at 90%. This was true for all three although the exact rpms differed. The 90% range for the three was 1612 - 1528 but the 100% range was 1181-1229. What could be the explanation for this? The CPU fan ramps up as one would expect.

I'm on a B360m Extreme board.
