Author: Williee
Subject: Where to Post
Posted: 08 Dec 2025 at 5:01pm

You?™re actually in a perfectly fine section already ??OC Build Advice is usually where people post when they aren?™t entirely sure whether their question belongs under ?œAMD??or ?œMotherboards?? If a moderator feels it fits better somewhere else, they?™ll just move the thread anyway, so you?™re good.

About getting your 7950X to ?œboost from idle to whatever it needs?? on AM5 the philosophy is very different from what we had a decade ago. You no longer chase fixed multipliers ??you let Precision Boost, power limits, and EXPO handle the heavy lifting. The baseline setup that works for 90% of users is:

Update to the latest BIOS for the X870 Steel Legend WiFi.

Load UEFI Defaults, reboot once.

Set EXPO so your RAM runs at its rated speed instead of JEDEC.

Enable PBO (either Enabled or Advanced) and leave its sub-settings on Auto.

Make sure the BIOS knows what cooling you?™re using (air / AIO) so boost behavior isn?™t restricted unnecessarily.

With only these settings, the CPU will sit cool and quiet at idle, but immediately ramp to high clocks when needed. Full-load temps in the high 80s are normal for a 7950X, so don?™t panic unless you?™re seeing throttling or instability.

If you ever want to fine-tune beyond that, Curve Optimizer is the safer route compared to manual overclocking. A mild negative curve can reduce temps and slightly improve boost behavior, but change only one parameter at a time and test with your real workloads, not just synthetics.

As for memory ?œboosting on its own?? EXPO already takes care of that. Unless you?™re deeply into memory overclocking, leaving subtimings on Auto is perfectly fine.

For context: I?™m not into competitive OC ??more into stable daily-driver systems. In my work I manage several WordPress environments and server setups (one of them is Mostbet CZ), and that taught me to value stability over squeezing out an extra 2% performance. AM5 is genuinely good at self-managing if you give it sane defaults.

If you can, post your exact RAM model, cooler, case airflow details, and maybe a screenshot of the PBO / AMD Overclocking page ??people here can help check whether everything looks correct. A clean, minimal configuration often performs better than an aggressively tweaked one.

    Author: atlanticrecycling
Subject: Where to Post
Posted: 18 Jun 2025 at 10:25am

I totally get where you're coming from ??jumping from a 2012 build to modern BIOS settings can be a bit overwhelming, especially with platforms like AM5 and features like Precision Boost, EXPO, and Smart Access Memory.

For your ASROCK X870 Steel Legend WiFi and Ryzen 9 7950X, the best forums to get in-depth BIOS setup help would be:

Overclock.net ??They have dedicated motherboard and Ryzen CPU subforums, and plenty of users with high-end builds like yours.

Reddit?s r/ASRock and r/AMD ??Both are active, and you?ll find a lot of community-driven support, including BIOS walkthroughs.

Tom?s Hardware Forum ??Great for technical questions and detailed step-by-step assistance.

As for your goal ??yes, modern Ryzen CPUs can handle automatic boosting quite well through Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO). Just make sure you?re running the latest BIOS (check ASRock?s support site), enable PBO in the BIOS, and enable EXPO (or DOCP/XMP) for your memory to hit its rated speed. You can leave most other settings on Auto unless you're tweaking voltages or clocks manually.

If you?re like me and prefer keeping things clean and efficient ??whether it?s your PC or your workspace ??I also recommend looking into services like Atlantic Recycling Skip Hire if you?re clearing out old hardware or doing any renovation at home. They were super helpful during my last setup!

Hope this helps, and feel free to drop a screenshot of your BIOS if you need help going through settings. Cheers!

Edited by Xaltar - 18 Jun 2025 at 1:30pm

    Author: mdskfx
Subject: Undervolting Asrock B760
Posted: 24 Apr 2024 at 4:41am

not sure if you have moved on or you figured out how to make this set up work. I just got done undervolting/overclocking my i5-12600K on the Z690 phantom gaming. I found where other people had overclockced the P-cores individually and left the E-cores set. When I tried their voltage settings my system would crash of thermal throttle in R23 benchmark. I was using intel XTU to do quick changes and found out that I was needing to undervolt and not add voltage to the CPU. I'm not 100% sure if all ASRock Bios are the same, but after doing some digging, I was finally able to find where to put the voltage in on the Bios level. In the "OC Tweeker" menu, go to the FIVR file and open it up. Down on the 5th should be "Core Voltage Offset" if you have an "Offset Prefix" line this is where you will put in the +/-. If you don't have this line, then you will put the "-" in the Voltage Offset line. Down father you can also change the E-core Voltage Offset and apply the same technique. Hopefully this helps if you still have this setup and you just didn't decide for the stock settings.
