Hey, thanks for the response.

I have a power meter and 4 running at full speed hashing takes about 1000 watts/hr.  Pretty sure it's not a power issue.  And yea, I know 5d relates to memory, but I can't see that being an issue since everything works fine with 4 cards.  System usage seems fine.  I set the swap file to 16GB minimum.  CPU and Mem usage both avg about 10%.  In Bios literally everything is disabled that I can find.  Everything works great until I stick that 5th card in a slot (you can see the riser sitting idle off the the side in the pic).

The fact that it wont post says to me its a mainboard issue.  If I had problems on boot, or once in windows it'd be a different story.  So, still hoping someone has a hail mary solution cuz this is my first asrock MB and at this rate with all the wasted hours - its going to be my last.

And yea, that's my build on the "rack".  Pretty easy/cheap to throw it together if you have the tools.

5d relates to memory

Windows? Check Device Manager that you aren't running out of physical resources. And disable in the BIOS any and ALL unnecessary devices if in fact it  is running out of resources to allocate. The look in Dev Mgr again ........

Too, look in Resource Monitor at you memory usage. Free, Allocated, and Used.

Nice "rack". Is that your handiwork??

I have built a GPU miner (cryptocurrency) and am encountering issues running 5 GPUs.

ASRock Extreme 7+
1600 watt PSU
16 GB RAM
Core i5 processor
Kingston SSD
5 Gigabyte Radeon 390/8GB RAM cards on pcie 16x to 1x risers

The system runs great with 4 cards.  No issues whatsoever, but it will not post when I add the 5th.  When I add the 5th card I get a 5d error and then even if I unplug all the cards it will not post until I reset the CMOS.  Once the CMOS is reset, it will post and boot fine with 4 cards again.

I believe the problem is related to the pcie bus and have installed the most recent bios updates.  I have tried setting each pcie slot to 1st gen and disabled everything else as a part of the chipset menu in the bios, but every time I go to add that 5th card, the 5d happens.

I have tried a mixture of cards, a mixture of slots, and a mixture of risers and verified everything to be functioning correctly.  The problem simply must be with the motherboard.  Does anyone have any advice?  Pic at the links below.
