Looking to switch to Asrock to run 2 sticks of ram instead of 4 in order to achieve maybe better ram OC Results.

I can run 4266 cl19 32gb on the asus hero XI Z390, and as the gene/apex x is nowhere available to buy here in the US, I was thinking to switch to an Asrock with 4 dimms (taichi) and run only 2 sticks?

Asrock boards do not have to have all 4 dimms used for proper performance/compatibility - correct? (unlike asus)

Socket 1151 is a dual channel platform so yes, you only need 2 RAM modules to extract maximum performance from it. The only time you need 4 modules is with HEDT platforms that support quad channel memory configurations: Socket TR4, LGA 2066 etc.

In fact, using 2 modules instead of 4, as you noted, typically yields higher overclocks on the RAM and better stability at high frequencies/low timings. Even on quad channel setups, there are certain use cases where using only 2 modules shows an advantage over 4, most notably, gaming. This is due to the added latency when quad channel mode is active.

As for T-Topology, I have no idea. That is likely an ASUS patented term/design element. I could see it helping to eliminate, at least partially, the latency issues inherent in quad channel setups but in dual channel, I don't see it making much difference. Not anything the end user would actually notice anyway.

I hope this answers your question.

Thanks for the response. What I'm actually saying though is, I have worse results with 2 sticks than with 4 on my Asus, that's why I'm thinking switching to Asrock if they don't have that 'limitation' that 4 sticks are better (due to t-topology) than with 2?
