Hello Asrock,

I've read that other versions of the Z390 block certain sata ports to enable the use of NVMe M.2 SSD's. How is this set up on the Asrock Z390 Extreme 4? I've currently connected 7 satas and I would like to add 1 NVMe SSD. The "Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB M.2 SSD".

Can I connect this to any of the two ports without it interfering with the Sata ports or should I take another approach?

Kind regards,

Cambesa

Hi Cambesa,

Thank you for your post.

According to the Z390 Extreme 4's specification, when using the 1 M.2 slots on the motherboard, it will disable two SATA ports.

M2_1, SATA3_0, and SATA3_1 share lanes. If either one of them is in use, the others will be disabled.
M2_2, SATA3_4, and SATA3_5 share lanes. If either one of them is in use, the others will be disabled.

In your case, the maximum number of storage is 1 M.2 SSD + 6 SATA HDD/SSD.

Please refer to our website for more information about Z390 Extreme 4.

All the best,

Thanks, I connected the EVO to the M2_1, took out one harddrive which was only 250gb. So now I have 6 satas connected to 2 to 7. But two harddrives are not found. Any advice on this matter? The sata 1 and 2 are not connected so this should work. The cpu is an i9 9900k so that should not be the limiting factor. The GPU is mounted right below the m2 ssd and works fine.

I tried other conbfigurations and the exact inverse of described above worked. So the EVO is on M2_1, and the sata ports 4 and 5 are unconnected now and 0 and 1 are connected and work.
