Hi,
I just want to report a successful upgrade to NVMe PCIE Samsung 960 Evo 250GB - bootable on Asrock Z87M Extreme4 I found it not conclusive answers about booting from Z87, and I do have Z87M version of that mobo, so I thought it would be good for anyone in the future who wants to make this kind upgrade. Steps: - updated bios - downloaded from Asrock website (now it is UEFI Version: Z87M Extreme4 P2.20) - installed 960 Evo 250GB SSD inside the pcie adapter on mobo - bios did recognise drive: go to Advance -> NVMe Configuration -> you can see the drive - In Windows I used Disk Management (Windows key + X, choose it from list) to create partition and then I checked it with Samsung Magician - Then I used Samsung Data Migration to copy the whole system from 840 Evo 250GB onto the new 960 Evo 250GB SSD - in bios in section Boot -> CSM (Compatibility Support Module): CSM: Enabled, Launch PXE OpROM policy: UEFI only, Launch Storage OpROM policy: UEFI only, Launch Video OpROM policy: Legacy only - in bios I have 960 SSD included Boot -> Hard Drive BBS Priorities - set it above the old SSD - Then it booted from the new 960 SSD then I just removed my old SSD, which I now use in old iMac 2009 (successfully installed as well) Hope this helps anyone who in future will try to do similar upgrade |
