Hi guys.. I hope everybody's doing okay.

Here's my issue

I bought a brand new ASRock Fata1ity Z170 Gaming K6 and I'm about to buy an Intel 7700K processor but I was told that I need to update the BIOS with a 6th generation processor.

My question is do I really have to use a 6th gen processor to update the BIOS ? or can I download the update from the official site and update the BIOS it with a usb drive using the Instant Flash Utility ?

I'd really appreciate your help guys and thank you in advance.

Dear Yacine17,

Thank you for choosing ASRock.

There is a sticker on the BIOS ROM chip, the BIOS version will write on it.

If your BIOS version is lower than P7.00, you need to update BIOS with Intel 6th generation CPU to support i7-7700k.

Thank you!

Yours truly,

ASRock TSD

No CPU = No BIOS updating. Simple as. So check the sticker on the BIOS chip - you may still be good to go on that 7700K.

If not, and if you're really determined, you can order a BIOS chip with the newer P7.20 on it that will support 7th gen CPUs.
