I'm curious about this and I can't get much info from ASRock or anywhere else for that... Intel's ARK shows the Celeron J3455 as supporting 8 gigs of ram. All of manufacturers using this processor on their boards say the board supports 16 gigs of ram. ASUS couldn't explain why, ASRock simply replied saying, "It supports 16 gigs, see screenshot". I'm not doubting it works, but how, if the processor only supports 8, how can the system use 16? I figure I have to be missing some part of the puzzle here..

ASRock and ASUS, looks like the only two MB manufacturers doing the SoC J3455 bot state 16GB capacities.

Too, Crucial is now stating 16GB certified/capacity/capability for ASRocks J3455-ITX

Those two, ASRock and ASUS, plus Crucial would satisfy me of them handling 16GB ok.

Again. ASUS ?? Really ? Cry Tongue

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I actually like the ASRock board better.  ASUS does not have a board with the J4205 yet to my knowledge, only ASRock. For the J3455, the only benefit over the ASRock board is the extra PCI-E slots. However, in all honesty, I probably won't need them.

I had always thought ASRock and ASUS were some how related? Is that a myth?

They were. ASRock spun off from ASUS in the very early 2000's. Though, as witnessed by these J series SoC boards and who so far has been the only two manufacturers to release them to date, and a couple of other relationships that I'm aware, they are still close in the technical side of business too I believe.

I did not, but the timely responses are much appreciated.  I actually used to be quite an ASUS fanboy for a long time, however, that changed when my brother built a PC using a very expensive ASUS board and we had nothing but trouble with the USB ports on the motherboard. It was painful to get it to work correctly.

Last build I did for a home/game PC, I went Gigabyte instead, and am very happy with that. However, for replacing my aging 1st gen i7 server, I've been looking at the J3455/J4205 boards. Its hard to beat the low power consumption, and I've noticed that the newer Celerons walk circles around the older ones. A lot of people think I'm crazy for replacing a 1st gen i7-950 with a J3455 or the Pentium J4205, but its used solely as a server for a couple of virtual machines that do not perform CPU intensive tasks, and I'm quite fond of the design of the ASRock board and the fanless CPU, along with the low power consumption of the Intel SoCs.

Sorry man. That was only me laughing at discussing ASUS on the ASRock boards. Which we could have her yet I'd still find it somewhat amusing.

I hope I haven't in any way dissuaded you into buying either Co's board.

No, its all good. I'm setting up KVM on a dual core J3060 tonight I just happen to have here at the house to try her out and see how its going to work, before I make up my mind on what I'm getting.
