UPDATE: Read Bottom

Short version. Fan used to turn off when not needed. Problem - now it never turns off.

I am using windows 10 64bit with stock i7-6700 cooler.

When I first got the Z170 Extreme4 motherboard with my i7-6700(NOT i7-6700k), the fan would be off 90% of the time. I haven't been working it very hard. Even during summer, the fan would be off most of the time. Then I updated the bios to one of the two before bios 7.00 and it stopped being silent. The fan ran at all time, even when set to silent. I updated to 7.00 in hope of fixing that, but the cpu fan still runs at all times.

Even in much cooler fall temperature, the fan runs at all time despite being set on Silent. I managed to get it to run at 1024rpm(give or take) instead of 1150rpm or so by playing with the fan control in bios, but even with it set to run the fan at 0% in all fan modes on silent if under 50C, it still runs nonstop. CPU temp is usually around 30C.

I need to know how to make it turn the fan off when below a certain temperature.

------------

Update: After copying my SSD partitions(and resizing them) to a bigger SSD with MiniTool Partition Wizard, I entered bios and changed my boot drive to the new SSD.  I clicked Save Settings and Exit, then pressed the Power button after the screen turned black.  It reset as usual when save/exit is used, then shut off immediately.  I then unplugged the data cable from the old SSD(power is still connected in case of trouble), pressed power again to turn on, and got a "your drive has failed to boot several times" bios message.  I pushed power again to turn it off, then turned it back on.

Everything booted normally, and for some reason my CPU fan has stopped spinning for the first time in a long time.  The Windows OS was cloned and is identical to what it was before this happened.

I don't know what happened to the bios, but it finally accepted 0 for the fan speed and I am sitting here in silence.  I have not reset to see if it would keep this setting.  I hope it does.
