i did notice when i was in bios before i did that last step, i had two different drivers that had a boot manager. that might have been the issue. two OS trying to run when secure boot was active

Awesome, glad to hear you sorted it out. The secure boot thing can be a real pain
to sort out. It almost always requires a complete reinstall like you ended up doing. Here's hoping it stays working now
