Hello,

i didn´t find a way to switch on / off the IGD depending on UEFI Bootloader entry.

Problem:

Windows Boot Manager --> PCI-E graphic is needed for this system.
Gummiboot --> integrated graphic is needed for my linux systems.

Is there a way to switch main graphics depending on uefi Bootloader entry?

MB: Asrock Z97 Extreme6
CPU: I7-4790K with integrated graphics
GPU: msi gtx-960

The only way to change which graphics source will be used is manually in the UEFI, with the Primary Graphics Adapter option in Chipset Configuration.

I assume your MSI GTX-960 works when using the Windows EFI bootloader?

One thing you could experiment with, meaning I don't know if it will work for your needs, is the IGPU Multi-Monitor option in Chipset Configuration. This option will cause both the IGP and video card to be active at the same time.

As long as both video sources are GOP compatible, I assume both would start up without any error.

Hi,

thanks for your reply.
Yes the gtx-960 works well using the win7 efi bootloader.

The gtx-960 works if the option is set to PCI-E in Chipset Configuration. If win7 uefi is started with onboard graphics and multi-monitor, the pci-e card is visible in device-manager and tells everything is all right. But there is no graphic output on gtx-960 in this case. If i disable standart vga in device manager, reboot in this setup to win7 efi --> legacy vga output on IGD no signal from pci-e card. Maybe i make something wrong.

My problem is, after reboot to win7 from main linux os i always forget to switch the primary graphic option....

I thought about prevent  IGD firmware supply  via efi startup.nsh script, but i don´t know how or if this is possible?

GOP, i think only the gtx-960 support it.

Hello again,

@parqasec is it or isn´t it possible - please ask your colleagues if you don´t know the answer. Google has no answer.

Thanks in advance.

The Intel integrated graphics on your processor supports GOP. I use the Windows EFI boot loader, so I know that GOP is supported. The Intel integrated graphics has supported GOP as far back as Sandy Bridge processors, like the i7-2600K. I've used the Windows EFI boot loader on Windows 8/8.1, using my i7-2600K on my ASRock Z77 Extreme4 board. There is no question that the Intel integrated graphics on your CPU supports GOP, it does.

Just to be sure, the question you are asking is: "I thought about prevent  IGD firmware supply  via efi startup.nsh script, but i don´t know how or if this is possible?"

Please understand that Linux is not considered a supported OS on your board. I don't know if what you want to do is possible. Most of the ASRock personnel is involved with the Computex PC show in Taipei, Taiwan, which starts next week. So it may be a while before you get a reply from them.

I don't know what driver you are using for the Intel integrated graphics on your Linux installation. The graphics driver you are using on your Linux OS may be related to your problem. As you should know, Intel does not directly supply Linux drivers for their processors with integrated graphics. Intel suggests this source for Linux graphics drivers for their integrated graphics:
