After researching options for the secure storage of keys, I decided to test functionality of a discrete TPM, rather than the fTPM functionality provided.
My motherboard is the B450M/AC, and after visually inspecting the board located what looked like a TPM header near the M.2 slot.

I managed to locate a TPM that matched the pin configuration on my motherboard. Links below:

However, after installing it on my motherboard, the motherboard will not turn on. Pressing the power button results in absolutely no response. Not even an initial sign of life or movement of fans.
Removing the discrete TPM allows the system to boot up as it had previously. I have tried switching the BIOS settings to use the LPC interface for TPM, turning off the TPM, and a few other settings I thought might have any impact. No difference.

So, does the B450M/AC not permit a discrete TPM?
Does anyone know what type of header is provided by the pins that appear to have the same configuration?

I'd forget about TPM, even the original creators of it say for the uses TPM is trying to be used for now it isn't a secure or practical solution.
