My power supply recently went bad so I bought a new one.
The new power supply didn't work. After playing with it a while I found that the power supply would work if no drives were plugged in. I thought the power supply must be bad so I got another one. Same problem. I'm now thinking there must be something wrong with the motherboard. As soon as a drive is detected, it shut everything down. Is there any hope for this motherboard????? |

Replace your SATA cables. I have had quite a few go bad on me and they can cause
the system to behave as you describe. They could have been damaged when the old PSU blew. If that doesn't help then your SATA ports could be damaged. If so you can try connecting your drives to different SATA ports. If all the ports are dead you can always get a PCIe x1 SATA controller card and use that for your drives instead. Good luck. |

Success!
Did you know that SATA power cables are not standardized? I certainly would have missed that one on the quiz. Once I unwound the old Seasonic cables and replaced them with the new EVGA cables, everything worked fine. Thanks for the help. |
