hello

does the deskmini support 3.5" hard drives? I tried to attach a 3.5" HGST 5tb from another machine... it does not spin up and is not recognized by the OS or BIOS/UEFI

The sata ports do work when i attach a SSD, so that isnt the issue.

Does the deskmini not support 3.5" drives? not enough power or something?

thanks for any help!

Would think there is not enough power and also no 12V that is required by 3.5.HDDs

As said above, only 2.5" HDDs and SSDs are supported, that is stated in the manual:

http://asrock.pc.cdn.bitgravity.com/Manual/DeskMini%20110%20Series.pdf

The DeskMini board itself supplies power to everything connected to it, including two SATA 2.5" drives. That power is regulated down from the +19V input supply. The on board power regulation is not large enough to supply +12V to a 3.5" HDD. Plus a 3.5" HDD cannot fit in the DeskMini 110 case, so no point in supporting them. 99.9% of 2.5" SATA SSDs only use the +5V power rail, as well a most modern 2.5" HDDs, designed to work in laptop PCs.
