" rel="nofollow - I'm putting together a new system and plan to have 5 storage devices and 2 DVD/Blu-Ray devices which all use SATA for their connection.  There will be *NO* M.2 devices.  The simple question is: can this motherboard support a configuration consisting 7 total SATA devices?

The specs for the board state there are 8 total SATA ports.  However, reading the manual I came across the following language: "* M2_1, SATA3_0 and SATA3_1 share lanes. If either one of them is in use, the others will be disabled. * M2_2, SATA3_4 and SATA3_5 share lanes. If either one of them is in use, the others will be disabled. * If M2_3 is occupied by a SATA-type M.2 device, SATA3_3 will be disabled."

This wording is ambiguous and can be interpreted two ways.  Which of the following is the correct interpretation?
1.  Using M2 slots 1 or 2 will disable SATA port 0/1 or 4/5 respectively
2.  Populating any one of  M2 slot 1, SATA 3 slot 0, or SATA3 slot 1 disables the other two ports.

No M.2 devices means you can utilize all the SATA ports.

Dear Pizzathehut,

Thank you for choosing ASRock.

The Z370 Taichi has total 8 SATA ports. If none of the M.2 slots is in used, the all 8 SATA ports can be used.

[M2_1], [SATA3_0 and SATA3_1] share lanes. If connect a M.2 device to M2_1, the SATA3_0 and SATA3_1 will be disabled.

[M2_2], [SATA3_4 and SATA3_5] share lanes. If connect a M.2 device to M2_2, the SATA3_4 and SATA3_5 will be disabled.

Yours truly,

ASRock TSD
