Hi,
I've had the Asrock extreme 4 Z97 for a couple of years now and it has worked fine up till about 2 weeks ago. Sometimes when I bootup my pc it won't boot up at all. The display on the motherboard reads error 71. When I get this error I won't get anything displayed on my screen at all. If I restart the pc it keeps coming up with the same message. The only way for me to boot up the pc is to take out and reinsert both memory cards.
At first I thought it had to do with the onboard battery. If I swithced off the electrics from the wall overnight then the following morning I would sometimes get a message, just after you have the option to go into the bios, that the date and time had been reset to 2014 (I presume that is when the mobo was produced). I have since then replaced the battery and don't get that message anymore. I thought that my errro 71 had to do with this battery issues but this is not the case.
Reading online people say it can be a problem with the memory cards and others say its a problem to do with the south bridge. Does anyone have any idea what can cause this bootfailure? I could try and buy new memory cards but if these are not the problem its money thrown away.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
