Dear tul, Thank you for the posting. For this case, please go to Advanced > AMD CBS > NBIO Common Options > SMU Common Options, where you will find the "CPPC Preferred Cores" setting. Thank you Yours truly, ASRock TSD |

Hi again, thank for your response. Updated bios to the last version (3.61) but the "cppc preferred cores" option is not displayed where you suggest, is there any prerequisite for this option to be displayed? any other bios option to be enabled or disabled? or only applies to a specific processor family? right now using a 4650G (renoir) |

Hello, I am running the ASROCK B550M PRO4 with an AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G (Renoir). After updating the BIOS to the latest stable version 3.90 (previously L3.46), CPPC unfortunately no longer works. Under Linux (Debian 13 ??other distributions are also affected), the following message is displayed: ?œamd_pstate: The CPPC feature is supported but currently disabled by the BIOS.?? As soon as I reinstall the previous BIOS, CPPC works without any problems. It is interesting to note that the problem or deactivation also occurs with other motherboard manufacturers as soon as you install the latest BIOS update. My question is why the CPPC feature appears to have been disabled in the current BIOS version and whether this feature will be reactivated in a future version, as was the case in older BIOS versions? I appreciate any answers. Thank you very much. |

By the response from ASRock_TSD it would appear that Renoir does not (officially) support CPPC. In situations like this the only option is to use the BIOS version that includes the feature you are looking for. It is highly likely AMD demanded the feature be removed, in which case it will likely not return. Intel does this all the time. Vendors like AMD and Intel rely heavily on gated features for their SKU separation. Lets use intel 6th gen as an example, an i5 6600 and an i7 6700k essentially are identical physically. The difference is locked features, overclocking on the non K 6600, disabled hyperthreading, lower clocks etc. Some of these features are locked at a hardware level and can't be changed, others are locked through the BIOS and deliberately hidden settings. Manufacturers have no choice but to follow these rules if they want to keep licensing vendor chipsets and BIOS backends. TLDR, if you have a BIOS version that does what you need, stick with it. -------------

Thanks for the explanation. I don't really need the CPPC feature. In this specific case, activating CPPC would only result in slight CPU consumption savings. My main concern is maximum system stability. If AMD/Asrock did not disable this feature by mistake, but rather to make the system run more stably, I would stick with the latest BIOS version. That's why I'd be interested to know whether AMD/Asrock disabled it intentionally or accidentally, and what the problem is with CPPC and Renoir. |

It's highly unlikely you will get an answer as to why. More often than not its a simple case of the CPU was not rigorously tested with that feature so they just make it unavailable. "G" series CPUs are considered low to mid tier so it's most likely they didn't bother testing a feature that they felt didn't need to exist on an SKU at that price point. The fact that the feature was available on an ASRock board for any amount of time is likely just failure of omission on ASRock's part. There are so many settings, even more when you factor hidden, non user alterable ones, it makes sense that manufacturers occasionally miss one that should be or shouldn't be disabled etc. There is a chance that CPPC caused issues with Renoir however. Getting an answer from AMD on the matter will likely simply lead to "feature not supported" and no further explanation. If you value stability then just stick with the latest BIOS (if it's stable for you) and ignore CPPC. -------------
