Hi,

since yesterday my system does not display anything. When I start my host I get 3 beeps short break and another 3 beeps. Fan works but nothing else. Can anybody help me? I replaced power supply and removed two 8GB memoy from slot A1 and B1 and replaced it by a 1GB memory module. Checked in both slots. no success. I also tried to reset CMOS. I get only these 6 beeps. Can someone help me. Is it CPU, mem, motherboard, power supply harddisk?

Mod should move this thread here:
http://forum.asrock.com/forum_topics.asp?FID=12&title=amd-motherboards

OT:
Can You describe if they are short or long beeps?

Example 3L-3S (3 long - 3 short)?

Thank You!

Moved

What are your system specs as well please. Are you using the APU or discrete graphics etc.

6 beeps could be keyboard/mouse related but if it is 3 beeps then a pause and another 3 then it could be something else. Try disconnecting the mouse and keyboard from the system and power on then try them in different ports. If you are using a discrete GPU you can also try removing it and connecting your monitor to the onboard display output, if this works then reinstall the GPU and try again.

I have no additional graphic card mounted and I have 6 short beeps. As you recommendet I have removed keyboard and mouse, and I have added a PCI graphic-card. No change.

You can try clearing CMOS using http://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=630&title=how-to-clear-cmos-via-battery-removal" rel="nofollow - this method and see if a full reset helps. Failing that, if you can, try another PSU. Lastly you can try stripping down the system and checking the CPU pins and socket for any burn marks or damage.

Connect the CPU power cable to the motherboard?

This, it is an easy thing to overlook. There should be an additional 4 or 8 pin power connector attached to the board as well as the 24 pin connector. Thanks for mentioning it Piddeman, it is something I often take for granted as being connected. It is easy to forget that not everyone that posts here will know about it.

The MBO should not BEEP if the 4-pin/8-pin CPU power cable is not connected.

Please describe the beeps you get. Is it six short beeps, or is it three beeps, a pause, and three short beeps again.

The six short beeps is supposed to be a keyboard problem.

Three short beeps is a memory problem.

Was your PC working fine and then you had this problem? Or are you just building it and have this happen?

I get 3 short beeps a pause and then 3 more beeps.

It was working fine for two years now.  This just happened all of a sudden.

Three beeps like that is a memory problem.

Electronic component failures always happen suddenly. They don't give warnings, make noise, or create smoke (hopefully) when they fail. A PC is filled with millions and millions of tiny transistors and in the case of memory, capacitors, millions of very small ones. If one or more fail, the memory won't pass its testing when the PC starts.

Try clearing the CMOS/BIOS. Remove and reseat your memory. If the memory slots are dirty or dusty, that could be the cause.

One or more of your memory DIMMs may have failed. If you have two, remove one and try to start the PC. If three beeps again, put the removed one back, and take out the other. If you have more DIMMs, you have more testing to do.

cleared the cmos and tried new DIMMS.  Looks like it may be a motherboard issue and not the RAM itself.  Only 1 dimm slot is working.  the 2nd dimm slot does not recognize any dimm I use.  If I just put one dimm in that 2nd slot alone and boot I get three long beeps.

Anything else I can try?

Is there any new information on this?  I have the same issue.  Three short beeps, a SHORT pause, then three short beeps again.  I don't believe it is a memory issue.  When you remove the memory completely, the motherboard gives you three LONG beeps.  I had this issue when I first built this computer.  I had to take it into a PC shop, where I was told the board was DOA.  Once ASRock replaced the board, I had no problems.  I am concerned that this board has failed as well.

Running an AMI BIOS, three beeps, Short or Long, are memory related.

Please list your current BIOS revision, and computer components out with part numbers preferably, including the age of the PSU.

Talked with ASRock, the three beep pause three beep code indicates a memory problem. They suggest reseat one by one and if that doesn't work then replace
