Hello. I'm having problems upgrading my processor in my Fatal1ty X370 Gaming-ITX/ac. It's got an A8-9600 but I'm trying to upgrade to a Ryzen 5 5500. The BIOS was at 5.70 but when I put the new CPU in, the fans turn on for a few seconds then they shut off and turn on again. If I put the 9600 in, the system boots. I upgraded to 5.90 but it still does the same thing. I've also cleared the CMOS with the jumper and left the battery unplugged over night without the system plugged in. What else can I try? Thank you! |

The first BIOS version that recognizes the Ryzen 5500 is version 7.0. However, I don't know how you're supposed to flash it, since it also stops supporting the Bristol Ridge (A8-9600). wino pretty much hit the nail on the head. Your best bet would be to take your system in to a tech store/specialist and have them update the BIOS for you. Otherwise you will need a CPU that is supported by version 7.0 to perform the update safely. -------------

| Thank you both for your responses. I guess I should have read more than "Ryzen support" - I have a Ryzen 1600x in another system that I could probably use to get that board up to the correct version. Maybe I'll try that out. |

Update, with my 1600X I was able to get the BIOS flashed to 7.40 and the 5500 now works and I have a Happy Son! Thanks for the help! |

I ran into an interesting situation. After a couple months of running without issue, the PC wouldn't turn back on. Here's what happened: Just before Thanksgiving, the PC was powered off including the power supply. Later we tried to power it back on, the fans spin up and nothing else happens. I removed ram/video card/ etc. I got down to just bare bones and it's all the same. Hit the power button, the fans come on and run, the ethernet light will flash but then nothing else happens. After holding the power button, the system will not power off either, I have to use the power supply switch to get it to shut off. I hooked up a PC speaker to the speaker connection hoping for some beep codes and it never makes a sound. Thoughts? |

If you have another power supply I would give that a try. It sounds to me like the PSU has failed/degraded. If it were another component like the board or CPU etc then the PSU should still power off with a long hold of the power button. At least that has been my experience. -------------

Thank you. I've ordered another power supply, it should be here in a few days. I decided to upgrade my 1600X as well so I'll have that processor available to test with too. I'll report back after my other hardware arrives. Hopefully with good news! |

Great news, I got it working. I'm not 100% sure what happened but this is my theory. I probably installed a little too much of my old Arctic Silver II when I installed the proc. I think it leaked over and allowed a couple of the pins to conduct to each other. I pulled the proc before I posted and cleaned it up but it didn't work. The brush I used was a little too stiff and I think I bent a couple pins. Thankfully they didn't break off. I decided to upgrade my 1600X system so I put that processor in place of the 5500 and the system started right up. I took a soft toothbrush and a bunch of isopropyl alcohol and really cleaned the pins. I inspected the pins to make sure there wasn't a hint of silver between them. Put the proc back in and it started right up. Thanks for the help! |
