Hi All,
I have just bought x870e Lite + 9950x. I've updated BIOS to 3.30.
I'm trying to install Ubuntu 22.04 LTS but it doesn't work, I tried both Desktop and Server versions, nothing goes after GRUB, when I select try/install ubuntu the screen just goes black and nothing happens, tried save graphics, same issue. Tried with different GPU same issue.

Is there something special I need to do on this Taichi?

Are you booting from the USB by default?

I use the boot menu to select to boot from USB.
I also tried using different flash drive, different ports.
On ubuntu GRUB I tried going with "nomodeset" but it again hung at "booting a command list".

I think Ubuntu 22.04 is too old, current LTS version is 24.04.

This works perfect here with Taichi Lite and 9900 and BIOS 3.30

Thanks, I played a bit more over the weekend and managed to boot it, using the integrated GPU.

Hi!

If you are using an Nvidia video card, it won't play nice with Ubuntu (or Linux in general).

I was able to install Ubuntu 22.04 by taking out my Nvidia GPU, and using the iGPU of my Ryzen 9 9950X (mounted on an ASRock X670E Taichi, with BIOS 3.30).

Thank you, this is exactly what I did as well and works now. You can't believe how much internet search I did and how many Nvidia cards I changed before this :)

Yeah.

If you really want to use Linux on daily basis, then you should switch to an AMD video card!

Nvidia-Linux compatibility will improve over the years, but we're not there yet.

- or stay with older Nvidia.
I use a 2070 Super, Ubuntu 24.04 runs out of the box with the Nvidia driver , no problems.

Would anyone know after which kernel version the onboard ether NiC works?
I have ubuntu 22.04 with kernel 6.8 and the NIC doesn?™t work but with kernel 12.17 the NIC works but the app soesn?™t.

why not just update to Ubuntu 24.04?
As I said: everything works there, incl ethernet...
