Hello

I have the B650Pro RS, which runs fine with the BIOS 3.50, but if I update to the 4.03 I see an error message when booting into Arch Linux EFI stub: Warning: unable to protect memory? Though Arch boots and runs fine

Re-flashing back to 3.50 and no message again

Bug in the 4.03 bios, or does something need to be changed in the bios settings

If need be please move this message to the correct section

I have the exact same issue. I built a new PC with the ASRock B850I Lightning WiFi motherboard on Christmas Day and first thing I did was flash the BIOS to 4.03.

Running Arch Linux with the standard kernel (6.18.x) I get this error after selecting boot loader:
"EFI stub: WARNING: Unable to unprotect memory range [xxxxxxxxx, xxxxxxxxx]: 8000000000000009"

When I boot into the LTS kernel (6.12.x) I do NOT get this message.

I have not tried to downgrade to the 3.50 BIOS yet.

I do not run Secure Boot, it is disabled. I also had to set the PCIe M.2 to run at Gen4 as I got btrfs CSUM errors when it was running at Gen5 (yes I have a gen5 SSD, Crucial T705 4TB). Not sure if this is related but searching found that the "8000000000000009" code is for "EFI_OUT_OF_RESOURCES" and could relate to Memory or NVMe.

Thanks for the info vistra and Deafbutnotdead, I will point ASRock to this thread.

I have a fix after finding OP thread on the Arch Linux forums. They emailed the "Asrock_TSD@asrock.com.tw" team and got a bios with a fix for this issue.

I emailed this address this morning and got a reply email within 3 hours with an attached BIOS 4.03.SP01 ROM. I updated to this and the boot warning on the linux kernel no longer happens.

Thank you ASRock TSD, excellent turnaround and fix! Bravo!

It was me you first emailed Asrock about this error, and they sent me a 'test' BIOS, which solved my problem

It seems that the 4.03 and the latest kernels aren't happy together, almost always Arch as they are basically the only Linux running >6.18 or bigger

Booting back into BIOS 3.50 will solve the problem.

Apparently, MSI MBs are having the same error as well, again with a user running Arch 6.18

For info, there is a new BIOS 4.10

Which I've flashed after testing the beta version

Arch Linux boots perfectly with no error message concerning EFI stub: Warning: unable to unprotect memory range
