I am trying to install my 2 nvme m.2 SSD in RAID1 mode for my dad as he lost his 8-yo drive, so he wants RAID1 redundancy.

the asrock raid instructions have me stuck at step 3.

It says to save and exit raid setup, but on reboot it fails with network error and crashes (turns off).

He has, B760 pro rs wifi White (5.01), 32GB DDR5 6,000 (Crucial), i3-12100 CPU/iGPU, and Corsair 750 watt PSU (750e), and a pair WD Black 1TB SSDs for RAID1.

Let me know if you need more information.

So you are getting stuck at the end of step 2 by what you describe. Try load factory
defaults, save and exit. Then repeat steps 1 and 2 and see if that clears the issue.
Make sure that Enable VMD controller, Enable VMD Global Mapping and Map this Root Port
are all set to enabled before saving and exiting.

If that fails, remove both drives from the system and attempt step 2 again and
see if it will allow you to save and exit and re-enter the UEFI again. If it works
then shut down and reinstall the drives ensuring you have them in the correct
M.2 slots, M2_1 and M2_3. See if that allows you to proceed to step 3 successfully.

Good luck.

Are you following these instructions?
https://download.asrock.com/Manual/RAID/B760%20Pro%20RS%20WiFi%20White/English.pdf" rel="nofollow - https://download.asrock.com/Manual/RAID/B760%20Pro%20RS%20WiFi%20White/English.pdf

It sounds like you have attempted to build the raid array and one or both of the drives
are throwing IO errors or are not seated properly in the M.2 slot.

Yes, I followed the guide all of the way to step 2.

I even swapped drives around, as I have 3 drives installed. besides my two WD Black 1TB each nvme drives, I also have a Samsung 960 pro 512GB.

I mean it is only two smallish steps. I make sure the the 3 drives are secure.

I did update to BIOS 5.01, maybe it has problems?

Can you replicate it yourself? I'm not sure how feasible that would be for you.

I will try again tomorrow and await your response.

FYI, I have been at this over 24 hours now!

I forgot to mention, after continuing to step 3 anyway, it would restart and I get odd errors sometime. a couple times were some kind of networing error and then crash quickly. I missed many other error from fatigue of testing many hours.

Ouch, yeah, get some rest and come back to it with fresh eyes. I would recommend
removing all other drives and USB devices from the system. Just the 2 drives to
be RAIDed, keyboard and mouse.

Unfortunately I can't replicate your issue, I am just a community moderator, not
a member of ASRock's support staff. My only connection to ASRock is moderating this
forum for them. If you are still stuck when you get back to it after some rest
and have tried what I suggested then you can reach out to ASRock support here:
https://tw.asrock.com/events/tsd.asp" rel="nofollow - https://tw.asrock.com/events/tsd.asp

They should have what they need to replicate your issue (if it's hardware/BIOS
related).

Get some rest and I will catch you when you get back to it.

Any luck resolving your issue? I am quite curious as to what the cause turned out
to be. There is no reason it shouldn't have worked out the box.
