Experts,

Simply put, The manual is dry when it comes to RAID, though specs say RAID 0&1 are to be expected from the x399 Taichi. All I can do in BIOS is say all SATA drives (2.5s & NVMEs) are RAID or not.

Well, I'm fine with my 1TB NVME being my OS drive (non-RAID), but I have 6 1TB 2.5s I want in RAID 0 (wish I could do RAID 5 natively (sans controller), but I'll take what I can get. It's all brand new, latest BIOS, etc.

Do I have to do RAID 1 in the OS? Or is there a way to do it in hardware (MB), which is preferred?

TIA!

I can be less useful here since all my storage solutions are hosted on dedicated external NAS systems.

I've seen many threads for RAID on X399 here, however. Check the search engine. Although most people were after NVMe RAID I think the principle is the same.

Also, if you can use RAID 6, I tottaly recommend it over 0+1, 5, 10, whatever.

enabled raid mode in bios instead of ahci (it will enable raid in bios menu)

setup the raid in bios (aka hard raid)

install raid drivers from amd website and you are done

this is all assuming the raid is not going to contain OS

@gizmic,

Thanks a ton for posting. I do see windows 10 stuff (ryzen master?), but I am running ubuntu linux on the iron. I got the raid array itself setup just as you described, but now don't know where to find a driver that will allow the arracy to be mounted.

I'll keep googling! :)

heres the link for the raid drivers but i only see windows options

https://www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/amd-socket-tr4/x399

there may be a chance you'll need soft raid on linux
