Hey all,

As mentioned in the title - I just upgraded to some parts (exact specs below) and when attempting to boot my computer up, I can get into BIOS with my keyboard mouse working fine, however once I get into windows, they completely turn off (power, lights, responsiveness etc).

Would appreciate any advice on how to go about solving this as I have been scouring the web.

OS: Windows 7
Processer : AMD RYZEN 7 2700X 8-Core 3.7 GHz
Mobo: ASRock B450 PRO4 AM4 AMD

I am wondering if this is a windows 7 issue? Would upgrading to Windows 10 solve this issue?

Thanks!

Quick addition: the mouse and keyboard are plugged into the legacy USB ports (non USB 3.0 blue ports etc) right above the S/2

Ryzen are officially NOT supported under Win 7.

Get Win 10 and save yourself tons of issues.

If you still insist on Win 7, take a good look around this forum.

Hey @xhue - So I have been trying for the last 3 hours to get a USB bootable windows 10 to work with no luck. And with my PC not functioning, I cant burn to a DVD.

Any advice on a workable solution? Im losing my mind here.

You don't necessarily need a DVD. USB stick will do just as fine.

If you have just that one PC and only Win 7, check around here. A few other similar cases describe the needed procedure to make Win 7 work.

Look in the Download area of your MB under Win7x64 for what you need.

Win7 does NOT have USB drivers for the newer boards. It must be incorporated into the bootable media.

I have this exact same problem. Same motherboard, exact same processor.

My hardrive is from a previous build though (Samsung EVO 500GB SSD) and has a version of windows7 already installed. Surprisingly it allowed me to open windows in an older version (from two weeks before the new motherboard). As soon as windows loads, my keyboard/mouse turn off. I figured it was because my hardrive has old drivers and/or is conflicting with the new motherboard so I inserted my Win7 disc to reinstall windows and as soon as the language selection screen comes up my keyboard turns off again.

I'm stumped and when I saw this question asked I was excited to read an answer but the answers here basically amount to "buy windows 10" or "look elsewhere for an answer".

After searching the forums here, it seems using the PS/2 simulator may be possible but I do not see where to enable it in the BIOS/UEFI settings. The general advice from Asrock technical support department shows it in the Advanced/USB Configurations menu. I do not have that menu under Advanced. A little digging shows a folder called USB consultation Options under Advanced/AMD CBS/ FCH Common Options/USB Configuration Options. There is no "PS/2 Simulator" option in that menu... Main menu says I'm on UEFI version B450Pro4 P3.10

Just to follow up, I found a solution. I had to buy a keyboard with a PS2 connector. I tried a female USB to male PS2 adapter with a cheap usb mouse and it did not work. $8 for a keyboard I'll never use again is better than 120 for Windows 10.

Marklar you're being hard on yourself for no reason.

Simply integrate the usb drivers into an installation media and reinstall Windows 7.

Other than the Win 10 being a total ad- and spyware platform, it can run modern hardware way better than Win 7.
