... if you have a Gigabyte or MSI motherboard.

So far, Gigabyte has:
1. Removed all the 1.0.0.1 bioses because of how terrible they are.
2. Released 1.0.0.2 bioses (same version AMD used for launch)
3. Released 1.0.0.3 AB bioses, even for their old B350 boards.
4. Fixed all the common bugs like RAM speed and M.2 device detection.

Meanwhile, here's ASRock, releasing the 1.0.0.1 bioses in July, telling us we have "bad CPUs" when we contact support because our machines won't POST.

Here is a good overview for the current AGESA versions for a lot of boards:
https://www.hardwareluxx.de/community/f12/ultimative-am4-uefi-bios-agesa-ubersicht-15-07-19-a-1228903.html

The launch is 8 days ago (and was too early from my point of view).
But it's a kind of funny, this hype train...

Actually someone posted on reddit /r/amd that ASRock support emailed them a BIOS to try. So maybe new BIOSes are on their way.

Of course they are. My experience with ASRock is that these gus are just slower than what everyone is happy with.

Guys, Ok, we will get new BIOS file but what to do then? Can we update BIOS with ryzen 3000 on board?

I have no older cpu, bought motherboard with updated bios..

@brucer:
Our Fatality x370 PG gets bios updates some days later after the Taichi (my experience from the past).

@wenerik:
If you have one of the said boards and a bios with at least AMD AGESA Combo-AM4 1.0.0.1, yes.

yep still nothing. Last bios 3.43 with Agesa 1.0.0.1 is very terrible. I have X470 Taichi and with old bios and Ryzen 1700, i can OC RAM up to 3533 CL14 from 3200 CL14. But now? Yes i can using my new Ryzen 3700X, but if i try set other setting to RAM, than XMP profile, i cant boot nothing. So i hope new bios this problem repair.

I feel like you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what's happening here, so I wanted to explain more even though Ray62 answered your question.

In order to POST, the BIOS on your motherboard must support the CPU you have installed. So people with Ryzen 3000 CPUs running 1st and 2nd gen motherboards needed to update the BIOS to a version that supports Ryzen 3000. And they can't do this with a Ryzen 3000 processor as the BIOS needs to POST to be able to run the flashing process (unless you have a board that supports flashback, but non of the 1st and 2nd gen ASRock do). So an older CPU that was supported is needed to update to a BIOS that supports Ryzen 3000. Once your motherboard has been updated to a BIOS that supports Ryzen 3000 and your motherboard can successfully POST, there is no more need for an older CPU.

I have an updated bios but it is not perfect, so I can succesfully boot my pc with ryzen 3600 sometimes. So my question was - is one succesfull post enough to update my bios?
It is definately not enough for installtion of windows as it is require reloadings..

Scroll down and select "Bios downloads auswahl".

You do not need to be able to boot/install Windows. All you have to do is be able to POST so the screen turns on and shows the ASRock logo, then you can press F6 to flash the BIOS (just put the new BIOS on a flash drive and have it plugged in).

Just read MSI are refreshing it's 400 series motherboards with a 32mb bios chip version.
Will be called 4xx max.

Seems 16mb is too small for the full bios update for backwards compatibility ?

AMD distributes the AGESA updates to the board vendors and AFIK - AMD has pulled back the latest AGESA because it was buggy.

Ryzen 3xxx sets internal divider to 1:2 when 3733 or higher is used! Optimal RAM speed for Zen 2 is 3600MT/s!

Where did you get the 3.46? The site https://www.asrock.com/MB/AMD/X470%20Taichi/index.asp#BIOS doesn't show it.

Did you download a beta?

My Taichi DDR with 3700x cannot go over 2133MHz... it's supposed to be DDR4 3600... frustrating.

Only thing I would like is to at least run my shiny new RX 5700xt at PCIe 3.0 on my X470 Master SLI/ac. I have to force it to "Gen2" to work as putting to "Auto" , constant reboots a minute or so into windows.

Other than that, my 3700x is running great... I have all 4 dimms populated with 3200 ram running at its rated speeds.

I'll do some more gaming and video encoding starting tomorrow after work and keep an eye on temps and can report back here.. cpu says 50c in BIOS though, I remember that much .. that seems a bit warm. I'm running a Lepa 240mm water cooling unit that I had running on my 2700x before my "upgrade".

the 5700xt is just using the default wattman fan curve, but I haven't looked at temps on it... but will.

So finally 3.50 BIOS has been released on the Asrock website.
I installed it on 2 boards, one with a 3700x and the other one with a 2700.

The one with the 3700X worked beautifully afterward. I was able to set my memory to XMP profile and I'n now running at 3600MHz, yeah! The BIOS seems stable, no issues reported.

The second board with the 2700 however I got a weird thing. After flashing, the board posted, reset, posted, reset, posted, reset again and posted like in a loop but at the end it started Windows just fine.

Anybody ran into this issue?

You know this is pretty misleading on AMD's part saying all current x470, x370, etc boards will support AMD 3000 series CPU's with a BIOS update. Because it doesn't work or we would not be posting all these problems with BIOS's that don't fully work with Ryzen 3000 CPU's. AMD should be held accountable.

Hmmm. In regards to 300-series motherboard chipset: Gigabyte released 1.0.0.2 BIOS in June; with ASUS early July; MSI had 1.0.0.3(AB) beginning of July and were first launcher of that AGESA and prior to Gen 3 CPU launch.

ASRock BIOS release however was AGESA 1.0.0.1 and came at a date AFTER all these aforementioned releases by competing board providers.

Most people seem quite pleased with 1.0.0.3 (unless you're a Destiny 2 player). So given 2 of the 4 major vendors had this widely released across multiple generations of boards within two weeks after Gen 3 Ryzen Launch.

I'm just pointing out the facts. Make your views and judgements as you see fit.

JBG84 it's just all these issues are holding me back from buying a 3700x and dropping it in my x470 and be on my way. I have BIOS 3.40 with my 2700x works great now I read I should update to BIOS 3.50 which is no problem. The problem is if I buy a 3700x drop it in and it won't boot or maybe it will lock up. These are the issues that should have been addressed months ago before the July 7th launch.

Well, yes. However I have seen other articles stating the same numbers. I guess someone should drop a line to AMD for a clarification, or just dig through their documentation.

its already set at 1900 max

AGESA 1.0.0.1 = Less than optimal RAM support.
AGESA 1.0.0.3 = Better RAM support BUT LOW BOOST frequencies.

So pick your poison and please remember, BIOS for Zen2 on old boards is a free service, the motherboard makers would earn more without new BIOS's.
I know this is gonna make some people angry but if you have problems with RAM and/or boot, then you need to learn basic PC trouble shooting and RAM tuning. If you want simple plug and play i suggest you pay the intel tax.

"AGESA 1.0.0.3 = Better RAM support BUT LOW BOOST frequencies."

Is this included in BIOS 3.50? I see it says Update AMD AGESA Combo-AM4 1.0.0.3. Also my RAM is Flare X 3200mhz CL14 with XMP profile, I want it to stay that way with the new BIOS when I do upgrade to a 3000 series CPU

3.50 working fine with FlareX. But just only XMP profile.

I must downgrade back to 3.46 beta, because on this bios i can OC ram up to 3800 CL14 and working well.

3.50 i cant boot with other setting like XMP.

Ah ok thats good then with bios 3.50 I can keep my XMP profile at 3200 CL14.
Still not going to flash it yet I will wait another month to see how the BIOS's matures and then when I find a 3900x I will upgrade.

I can confirm the new 5.90 bios for X370 itx/ac works fine and I don't have any cold boot issues anymore as well as my ram works as expected 3200. I do see cpu doesn't boost anymore to 4.4 but as far as I understand this is an issues related to aggesa 1003

Thanks for your post..

Damn, I've had a look to the Download Page every day... No update to AGESA 1.0.0.3 for X370 itx/ac.

I googled the mentioned version 5.90. I figured out, there are two different pages...

https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/Fatal1ty%20X370%20Gaming-ITXac/#BIOS
and
https://www.asrock.com/MB/AMD/Fatal1ty%20X370%20Gaming-ITXac/index.asp#BIOS

The new version ist listed only in the second link....

The new bios for the AB350 Fatal1ty ITX board is fantastic. No issues found so far.

So I updated to BIOS 3.60 yesterday.
First board, no issues, all is working good, memory is using XMP profile (like 3.50) and runs at 3600MHz.

Second board, I still get 5 POST before going into Windows but after that everything is fine and runs smoothly as well.

Anybody else still has issues with the POST?

what's wrong with the Asrock AGESA versions or am I missing something?
AB350M Pro4
bios 4.90 => AGESA 1.0.0.4
bios 5.00 => AGESA 1.0.0.5
bios 5.50 => AGESA 1.0.0.6 ... ok, upgrade.
bios 5.80 => AGESA 0.0.7.2 ... what?
bios 5.90 => AGESA 1.0.0.1 ??
bios 6.00 => AGESA 1.0.0.3 ... so bios 6.00 has older AGESA than bios 4.90 from 2018?

Anyway, running old Ryzen 1700. Do I even need or should update BIOS to 5.90 from 5.80? (6.00 has warning for pre Zen2 stuff)

PinnaclePI-AM4: Zen1+/Gen2 Ryzen/Pinnale Pi
Combo-AM4:      Zen2/Gen3 Ryzen/Matisse

bios 4.90 => AGESA PinnaclePI-AM4 1.0.0.4
bios 5.00 => AGESA PinnaclePI-AM4 1.0.0.5
bios 5.50 => AGESA PinnaclePI-AM4 1.0.0.6
bios 5.80 => AGESA Combo-AM4 0.0.7.2
bios 5.90 => AGESA Combo-AM4 1.0.0.1
bios 6.00 => AGESA Combo-AM4 1.0.0.3

Thanks to AMD for this brilliant version scheme!

AGESA Combo-AM4 0.0.7.2 was also used for Athlon 2xxGE series APU.

@deemon: bios 5.50 should be the best for an old Ryzen 1700.
