Hi guys,

I've upgraded the bios on my board in preparations for my 3700x coming in. However now that I have updated the bios to P5.40. ( following the steps listed on the page to get to said bios version ) The board will now only post with 1 stick of memory.

It doesn't matter what I do, I've seated and re-seated the memory. I've cleared the cmos while the memory was sat. I've done everything I can think of.

However this board simply will not post with more then 1 memory stick in it now. It doesn't care where the memory is seated either. It doesn't care which of my sticks I use. Its simply telling me to take a hike now. Previously before updating the bios , this wasn't an issue, It would post no problem.

Is Asrock aware of the issue with there broken code? I've also for science and giggles reinstalled the bios, and of course tested the memory in my other boards.

Really looking for some help here.

Didn't you read what is going wrong with the current bios versions for the new Gen3 Ryzens?

5.40 with AGESA Combo-AM4 1.0.0.1 has reduced functionality and bugs.
Newer Combo-AM4 1.0.0.3(AB) solve some problems.

Try to load XMP Profile, save, check if it is running and put in the second stick.
Maybe the new 3700X will behave better as the old 1600X.

Well I checked the forum and I didn't see a sticky post anywhere that said "known issues"

I mean the infos and forums in the net!
There is no board from any vendor which has a bios without problems related to the new Zen2 this time. They all are depending on the AMD AGESA updates, which are still beta.
Beginning with ComboAM4 1.0.0.3(ab) the situation is a bit better, but there will be more updates in the next weeks.

https://www.techpowerup.com

Just for example.

German site, but a good and regulary updated thread for an overview of the bios versions for mostly all boards:

Well I have installed my 3700X same issues. Still only post with 1 stick of memory, still only runs said memory at 2133. If I clock it any higher it'll hardlock after a while.

I'm really really annoyed right now. This is the worst upgrade I've ever experienced in my life. My Old 990FX MSI board was on point when I upgraded the bios. Dropped in the new chip everything was fine.

Asrock though seemingly an entirely different beast.

That's why i'm keeping my old Ryzen 7 1800X with an old bios.
I need a stable running system.

Beta testing R3000 only with a different new system in parallel placed naked (without case) on the desk, but i have not so much time doing so.

So my friend who has a X370 Taichi is also experiencing the same issue, although his is not as bad as mine, his will at least post and boot. And it'll run just fine at 2133mhz. If he turns it up anyhigher. No post no boot. Same as mine. Asrock lets go , where are the updates, Please make our boards usable.

The X370 Taichi is a very popular board with more beta bios versions available. In the "Asrock X370 Taichi Overclocking Thread" @www.overclock.net a lot of (experienced) users are playing around with 3000 Ryzens and RAM OC.

2133mhz with only one stick: That can be avoided, even with the X370 Killer SLI/ac, i guess.

But simply loading the XMP profile will be succesfull only in a few cases (independent to any board/bios version).

You have to improve your understanding for setting up the bios for Ryzen and the used memory, even if the bios versions will offer better behavior in the (hopefully) near future.

Anyway, the current beta state, particularly for the X370 boards, is a bad situation.

I had issues with 5.40 and ryzen 1600. Xpm didn't worked at all.
I was able to go back to 5.30 and XMP works fine but it's not compatible with ryzen 3000

Another one here who assumed that because the BIOS was available that my ram would work. Only one stick will boot (X370 Taichi) with the 3700X. I did check online and saw nothing saying that there were problems with getting two sticks of ram to work.

Pretty aggravated right now.
