Mainly posting in case others get similar.
Following a recent windows update by HTPC built with the above board broke itself. It wouldn't boot and system repairs, recovery points etc were unable to save it.
So I had to rebuild. Then after getting all that done and doing a couple more windows updates it appeared to die again - nothing but a black screen. Except it didn't - I could still ping it and services seemed to be running. The problem was no display either on screen or over RDP.
After about an hour it would eventually show me a screen. Going into Event Viewer showed that the igfx module was dying and restarting 100s of times.
I noticed that the intel drivers were a much newer version than the "latest" shown on the support downloads. So I tried rolling back to the right version. Bad move. That put me into recovery mode again.
Luckily this time a system restore point worked and got me going again albeit with the one hour boot.
So I then decided I'd give the latest firmware a shout. I was still on 1.20 so installed 1.70 and then immediately 1.80.
Booted up, under a minute and a working visible desktop.
So yeah something between the latest windows 10 version update and the latest intel display driver killed my J4205-ITX (twice). But the latest firmware fixes it.
Hope this helps someone who may get into a similar position.
