Hi. my son?™s PC has a 512gb m.2 SSD, a 250gb Sata SSD and a WD 2TB Hard drive. Everything is ok once windows has loaded but after a while both the sata SSD and hard drive goes missing off windows. If I reboot they?™re back again. In device manager I get this message : the device cannot start (code 10) An I/O adapter hardware error has occurred Please could someone offer some advice? Thanks so much.
It?™s on a Asrock AB350M motherboard and running Windows 10.

Is this a new build or did the PC run without that problems in the past?

Hi. It?™s a system I built about 18 months ago. But the m.2 SSD is new. The 2 drives that have the problems are 18 months old. Thanks for the help.

What m2 SSD is used? Is a SSD vendor specific or the windows standard driver in use? Did you also update AMD driver? For the SATA controller, is the AMD or the windows standard driver in use?

It?™s a DATARAM Internal SSD 512GB, PCIe NVMe. The motherboard chipset driver was downloaded from AMD site. Everything else is windows drivers. Thanks

I mean you have to go the device manager and at least check the SATA controller, if it is assigned to the AMD- or the standard windows driver.
If the AMD driver is active, change it to the windows standard driver. Windows works with both, but some days ago a user here solved SSD problems by NOT using the AMD driver for the SATA controller. It seems, that the (latest) AMD driver can cause problems, when a NVME drive is in use.

Thanks. I looked and I have 2 ?˜standard SATA AHCI controllers?? Both say windows drivers. Should I delete one?

Hmm, the other way round. You can update to the AMD driver and see, if that helps... If not, change it back to the windows driver.
DATARAM Internal SSD 512GB, PCIe NVMe, do you have an exact information? And what about the controller for the NVME? Do you have a special DATARAM driver for that or is the windows driver used?
I ask all these questions because there must be an influence between the SATA and NVME controller causing the problem.
What else has been changed since adding the NVME?

I tried everything you said. Every time the error returned. I got annoyed and returned the M.2 then bought a Crutial one. Re-installed windows and 2 games to try out. Fingers crossed it?™s ok at the moment. I?™ll update tomorrow but thanks so so much for the help.
