Just read about the speed improvement of the M.2 NVMe SSD's and wondering if I could install one on my Z97 Pro4. It's been so long since I last upgraded I've forgotten the terminology so I'll need know how to do it if it can been done.
Thanks, Kerry

Is this the right place to ask this question?

Dear Kerry,

Thanks for posting your query to ASRock forum.
This is technical support from ASRock.

Let me help you out with this question, Z97 Pro4 does support NVMe M.2 since BIOS version 2.50.

However, the speed will be limited to Gen2 x2 (10 Gb/s) comparing with full speed Gen3 x4 (32 Gb/s).

So, with NVMe installed to the system, the speed will still be slightly higher compared with using SATA SSD.

With thanks,
ASRock TSD

Thanks TSD,

Too bad. It looked exciting. Given my components can you suggest something that might get me some noticeable speed? I'm not a gamer; I spend hours each day emailing, opening/closing apps, editing, saving and maintaining websites.
Much thanks, Kerry

I've decided to get the Samsung® 970 EVO Plus 500GB PCIe 3.0 Solid-State Drive however, I can't find the v2.50 BIOS update.
I'm wanting to do a clean install of W10 Pro and have it be the C: (boot drive).

Should I be asking for help some place else?

I'd like assurance that the Samsung® 970 EVO Plus 500GB PCIe 3.0 Solid-State Drive will work with my Z97 Pro4.
Thanks, Kerry

Hi,

I have tried installing a Samsung 970 m.2 nvme evo plus with an Orico pcie 3 x 16 adapter card but cannot get it to boot the OS. No matter what order in the boot manager, it just freezes when it boots up to Windows 10 clean install.

My bios is updated to the latest 2.6.1

Does this board support booting from Nvme pcie 3 x 16 or x4 expansion cards ? The m.2 slot boots fine but at gen 2 speeds. I obviously want to get it to perform at full speed.

Is this possible ?

Thanks
