Hello. I am fairly new to building PC's. I got the ASRock B450M Steel Legend MOBO and wanted to now: 1. Do I need a BIOS update if I use an AMD Ryzen 5 3600? On the MOBO Box it even says "AMD Ryzen 3000 Desktop ready", shouldn't indicate that I don't need an BIOS update? I've heard both and therefore I am wondering. 2. Another question but maybe related is, that if I turn on my (newly) built PC, fans are spinning, LED seems to be working and you can hear it turning on, I get a blackscreen and can't get into the BIOS, "No Signal Input" it says on the monitor. - I know that the monitor works 100% because I checked it with my other PC - I checked the HDMI connector - I checked the PCIE connector that connects the PSU to the GPU (Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060) - I checked the DIMM slots if the RAM is correctly placed into the MOBO - I checked if the GPU is correctly placed into the PCIE x16 slot I am wondering what's causing the issue then. I mentioned the BIOS that could need an update, and someone suggested that I try to connect the GPU to the monitor via a DVI cabel because of "secure boot". If somebody has got any suggestions on what to do to get into the BIOS, I would gladly appreciate it. Thanks. |

Check the sticker on the BIOS chip, there should be a white label with a version number printed on it. If the number is greater than the required version for your 3600 then it shouldn't need an update to post. Also make sure you leave the system powered on for a good 10 mins before powering off. Sometimes POST can take a while on first boot due to RAM training and other initial setup procedures. -------------

A2 & B2 generally for 2 sticks of ram .. check slots for foreign matter (I've had packing material in the memory slots that caused me fits before finding it)you can try just one stick of ram and alternate sticks.. you can clear CMOS and then try booting .. reseat your video card and memory ..sometimes it might feel like the video card and or memory is seated but if you didn't hear that "Click" then it might not be seated all the way.. Try a different video card if you have one .. try a different PSU if you have one. I put in both sticks in every way possible (1+3 slot, 2+4 etc), tried to do it with one RAM only. I cleared CMOS also, didn't change anything. I already tried a different PSU and don't have a DVI cable or anything else. Checked every cable several times. Thanks though. |

..something I've done once when I had a similar problem, but with me, the video card wasn't lined up straight with the pc case slots and I wasn't getting the HDMI chord all the way plugged into the video card. I had to loosen up the card and adjust it slightly and then the chord would go all the way in and viola .. got a display on my screen. are you able to test the video card in another box? or CPU in another box .. or another cpu in your current setup? The HDMI does go all the way in, there's no issue there. I DO have another setup (my own pc) with same CPU but I can't change them because I don't have thermal paste available atm. But could it really be the CPU if there's a problem with the input signal? Because everything on the MoBo seems to be working. Thanks for replying. |

Okay so I may have found the problem. I literally tested everything, every cable, the GPU, the MoBo HDMI port, BIOS reset 2x, switched RAM slots, switched with my other RAM, tested another PSU and then I looked at the CPU. While I may have found the issue, it's still a bad outcome either way. One pin is missing on the CPU. One single pin. I don't know how that was even possible but I must have destroyed it by accident. There are some "useless" grounding pins on the CPU right? So there is a chance, that it isn't this pin that's causing the issue. But it seems weird to me that everything else seems to be working, fans, LED and it does make sounds while turning it on. So it could be the issue, but it doesn't have to be. What options do I have? Order a new CPU (  me)?
