Hey Everyone,

I'm trying to connect my device(s) to the TB3 port on my ASRock x570 Taichi. I have tried to connect the following devices:

- Universal Audio Apollo Quad (which has a TB2 card build-in)
- Universal Audio Twin TB2
- Universal Audio Satellite TB2
- TB2 to VGA adapter (for 2nd monitor)

All my devices are TB2, that's why I am using a TB3 to TB2 adapter from Startech. Universal Audio recommended me to buy this adapter since the one I had from Apple didn't work. I have read from other people that the Startech adapter works fine for them.

The problem is that my computer is not recognizing any of the TB devices I'm trying to connect. The cables and the Startech adapter are working because I have tested them with my mac. If I'm trying to connect one of the devices with my TB3 to TB2 adapter from Apple I get an error saying that it's not working. But when I use the Startech adapter nothing happens.

I have enabled Thunderbolt in my bios and set the security level to the lowest option. I have updated my bios to the latest version 2.70 and I am running the latest version of Windows 10. The only thing I can think of is that I am missing some crucial drivers or the TB3 port on my motherboard is broken. But that seems unlikely since I do get a message whenever I'm trying to connect a device using my TB3 --> TB2 adapter from Apple.

I have contacted both ASRock and Universal Audio but haven't heard from them yet. I thought maybe someone here would be able to help me out.

Thanks in advance :)

I have made a really dumb mistake thinking I could just connect a TB device to the TB port. But I just figured out I actually need a TB AIC card. This topic can be closed.

What port are you connectiong to?
One connected into the motherboard or into a PCIE card?
If your into the motherboard then that is a usb connection and not a thunderbolt connection.
Taichi thunderbolt is only possible via a thunderbolt add in card, you should see a thunderbolt header at the bottom left of the board labelled THB_C or something like that.
