On Windows 10 x64 my Z87M Extreme 4 doesn't output on the Rear Channels in 7.1 audio mode. This worked in Windows 7 and 8. All the channels do work for 5.1.

Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone have a fix for it (or at least is someone at ASRock working on it?) Sound was kind of one of the main deciding factors for this board for me, so I would like it fixed.

Am I really the only one who's seen this?

It's really looking a lot like a driver issue.

Did you install the drivers from your  http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z87M%20Extreme4/?cat=Download&os=Win1064" rel="nofollow - product page for the sound?

Dear customer,
This is ASRock Technical Department.
Thank you for the query.

Regarding the audio 5.1/7.1 channel issue.
This has been confirm as a Microsoft issue for Windows 10.
However, it should be fix at the 10586 build.
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/51-channel-surround-sound-not-working-in-windows/b14b932f-2fda-44e9-b22f-aeaa3f329958?page=48

Therefore, we recommend you to update the Windows to 10586 build or later for try.

Thank you for your patience.

If any, please feel free to contact us!

Kindest Regards,
ASRock TSD

@ASRock_TSD I updated to 10586 and reinstalled the most-recent sound drivers from the asrock site. I'm still getting no sound on the rear channel.

That link you sent seems to be the optical connection, I'm specifically using the analog links, if that matters.

Thanks!

Can we get drivers that work sometime before I need to upgrade?

This is not looking good for me wanting to use asrock the next time around for upgrades.
