Help! I bought an Asrock Z490M motherboard and I noticed that it required the usual 8-pin 12V and a 4-pin 12V. My power supply has the 8-pin 12V, but it does not have the 4-pin 12V. Right now the PC will boot. Is the additional 12V 4-pin necessary for basic use? Its not going to be overclocked or anything crazy. It will do some gaming, but mostly work.

Any suggestions? I would prefer to not have to replace the power supply.

Dear Marrick97,

Thank you for posting your query.

If you are using the system without heavy loading, then it should be fine with 8-pins connected.

However, gaming can require lots of performance, thus, it is recommended to connect all power ATX pins.

With thanks,
ASRock TSD
