Subject: AB350 Gaming-ITX/ac + TridentZ 16GB only 2133 MHz

Hello,

I just bought the G.Skill TridentZ 3600 MHz CL15 RAM and can't run them at any frequency except 2133 MHz.

My specs:
MB: Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming-ITX/ac
BIOS version: 6.60
CPU: Ryzen 1600
RAM: G.Skill TridentZ 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3600MHz CL15 (F4-3600C15D-16GTZ)

I know that the Ryzen 1600 will not run memory in XMP 3600 MHz, but 3200 CL14 or 3400 CL16 should not be a problem for these sticks :(

I am using ZenTimings 1.1.0 and Ryzen DRAM Calculator 1.7.3 and I tried different configurations, raised the RAM voltage to 1.4V without succes.

If I set in the BIOS:

- Load XMP Settings to Auto
- DRAM Frequency to Auto
- DRAM Voltage to Auto

then the DRAM Timing Configuration menu is not available, the system starts and the memory runs at 2133 MHz.

But if I just change the DRAM frequency to a different value than Auto, set all the values according to the Ryzen DRAM Calculator, then after saving the settings and exiting the BIOS the computer shuts down and then returns to the default settings. Even when I set the frequency to 2133 MHz and input all the timings, ProcODT, CAD-BUS etc. (shown by ZenTimings, when the system boots up on the default settings), even then the computer turns off. In other words, the computer boots up only when the DRAM Timing Configuration menu is inactive or with the default RAM settings (2133 MHz). Any changes made to the DRAM Timing Configuration menu cause system crash.

Please help. Thanks in advance.

I also noticed that I have AGESA Combo-AM4 PI 1.0.0.6 but SMU 25.86.00. Shouldn't the SMU be newer?

sounds like a dud memory controller on your 1600. 1000 series are real particular about memory too .. your memory isn't listed on QVL for Raven Ridge (2000 series) so I am assuming it's not on the QVL for your CPU.

I run the same motherboard in my daughters rig. Ran the 2200g and couldn't get her 3000mhz Team Group stuff to run at it's rated speed ..only 2866 .. upgraded her to a 2700x and same .. then upgraded her to a 3600x and same 3000mhz rated memory runs at 3200mhz without issue (haven't tried faster yet). She's on the 6.50 BIOS right now.

I replaced the RAm with the G.Skill FlareX 3200 C14. They should arrive tomorrow. I will see how they will work.

You'd be better served to upgrade your CPU.

3700x is my next target, I'm just waiting for a drop in dollar's exchange rate ;) Anyway - the new G.Skill FlareX 3200 C14 runs perfectly on the XMP profile :) I am very pleased :)

Hello wino,

1) if you load XMP, the Dram frequency will be fixed correctly, but if you change it to auto as per your line two statement, then XMP is lost.

2) if you load XMP, the Dram voltage will be fixed correctly usually 1.35v, but if you change it to auto as per your line two statement, then XMP is lost.

load XMP alone is not enough unfortunately, the industry hasn't aligned all the parties what parameters must ALSO be included, i.e. socV, procODT, etc.

example; -

I've got a x370_taichi plus a b450_aorus_m, the so-called "high-end" taichi has better ram training and more reference table in bios I think, where soc will go up 1.2v when XMP is loaded, which gives higher chance to boot/success.

versus so-called "mid-end-near-low-end" b450_aorus_m, the soc is hidden is AMD_CBS (bios F50) and not decimal but HEX, so I've got to manually HEX code "50" to boot soc at 1.1v and I think/suspect that loading XMP is not enough to tell the bios to push SOC to 1.2v unlike the taichi which seems to be smarter.

taichi will push tCL from 15 to 16 in order to boot and windows not crash.

B450_aorus_m don't have this smartnest and crash windows, only can boot into bios and still sees tCL 15 which is not accepted by Ryzen 1700x on 3000Mhz zone/area.

It looks like TridentZ is just not compatible with my config, FlareX works perfectly on 3400 14-14-14-14-28 and GDM Enabled. So it's almost Fast settings from Ryzen Dram Calc, which is great for this tiny board :)

Hello,

I'm ASRock x570 Creator user for a year now. I have 4x 16 GB Corsair (CMK32GX4M2D3600C18) RAM and 3950x. I recently upgraded (finally) to BIOS v. 3.50. Until this I used 2.40. It ran on 3600MHz XMP settings just fine. Now I've tried 3.00-3.50 BIOS/UEFI versions but can't get it boot RAM running at 3600MHz.

I've even manually copied the settings from v.2.40 and it won't work. I think ASRock has made fixes to many other x570 motherboards except Creator.   I have no need for overclocking. I just want to run my 3600mhz RAM at 3600MHz for low latency audio work. It really matters in audio work.

I can post any numbers you require. I've read a LOT of info on the web. I've increased DDR voltage, SoC... so many boot attempts.... but no go...

Any ideas?

Best regards,

Andy

Hi cx5 and thanks for the reply. Uuh... I've been reading and testing a LOT... My setup is Asrock x570 Creator, 3950x and 64GB Corsair 3600C16 LPX Vengeance RAM (4x 16gb). My goal is to get all RAM (MCLK) and Infinity Fabric (FCLK) and UCLK (North bridge?) running 1:1:1 in sync.

This seems to be surprisingly hard. The XMP is not working at all on any version BIOS/UEFI above version 2.40. On bios2.40 I can get the system to post and boot running DRAM 3600mhz, manually setting FCLK 1800mhz and keeping UCLK 1:1 but is not stable. Dividing UCLK/2 is stable. I believe somehow I need to boost voltages in UCLK to make it run 1800mhz stable.

And why ASRock have taken UCLK divider away from BIOS versions above 2.40?? Also disabling unnecessary USBs is not possible on newer bios versions. I did get a beta bios 3.54 for the Creator but this did not help either. Also the PCIex16 version (Auto-Gen1/2/3/4) does not seem to work at all on some bios versions.

Bios2.40 with updateg AGESA wuould be very nice. If I can't get this rig running, I might upgrade my processor to 5950x, maybe take 32gb RAM out or *sigh*... switch the motherboard...

to run 4 x 16gb sticks at 3600 is a bit of a tall order for your 3000 series Ryzen CPU. I'm sure 2 sticks would run just fine in A2/B2 .. and run at even faster speeds ..

Your memory controller is on the CPU .. upgrading to a 5000 series Ryzen might get you to 3600 with all 4 sticks 1:1.

Your best bet is to run at 3533 ..or 3400 ..whatever you can get stable and then tighten up the memory timings and you achieve same performance (or real close) as running at 3600.
