I used the ASRock X99E-ITX/ac motherboard in my latest computer build.  I chose this motherboard because it was the only motherboard available that would allow me to use a LGA2011-3 socket CPU in a compact mini-ITX case.  It also has many advanced features like full size motherboards and is capable of overclocking, too.

I'm using the Cooler Master Elite 110 case, an Intel i7-5820K 6-core CPU, an EVGA GTX 960 mini GPU, 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport RAM, Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD, the Cooler Master Seidon 120V water cooler and a Corsair CX600M power supply.

Everything went together really well and I was glad that ASRock included a bracket to mount the water cooler on the Narrow ILM socket.  There are few Narrow ILM coolers available and the Seidon 120V is compact and quiet.  I have the CPU running at 4.5GHz for the last couple of weeks and it is doing well.

Here are some pictures of the "HexBox":

This computer looks awesome...I love the idea of big 2011 socket CPU in a tiny ITX form factor!

Reminds me of the Chris Farley skit..

Really Nice build!  Clap

Any issues fitting the 960 in that case?

No, the graphics card fit pretty easily.  It had at least a half inch of clearance.  There are a few compact GTX 960 GPUs available -- I got the EVGA 2GB model for $175 on Amazon.

The GTX 970 is also available in a mini version...too bad it's so expensive, that would make a compact super computer, indeed.

NICE!  I would love to build a compact gaming rig like this

In my current computer, I'm running an older card, but I've been shopping the 960 and 970's...with the release of Witcher 3, I've been leaning toward the 970

THAT'S A REAL GIANT SLAYER YOU'VE GOT HERE.  The 960 may not be the best around but it'll get the job done at least IMHO!  What's all this talk about The Watcher?  Is that a new game or something?  LOL

wait a minute...is that a radiator I see??ShockedShocked  NICE!

Work good?  I was reading the press release on this board, and it mentioned that the Seidon water cooler is compatible...how's it performing your case?  Can you really cool that processor in that case?  What are your temps?  Looks like a snug fit for sure

I do have a radiator in there -- just a 120mm but it works well.  The fan is mounted on the front side of the divider wall and the radiator on the inside.  I think the case also fits 140mm fans in the same place.

Thanks Dani! Star

My buddy ordered one of these motherboards but I think he's going ot use a bigger case or maybe a BitFenix.  Fancy stuff.  The i7-5820 sounds like a really strong processor and not much more than the top 1150 i7 (but with fewer motherboard options and more expensive DDR4).

Very nice computer I'd say!

The DDR4 is more expensive.  I paid about $80 for an 8GB stick and then my brother gave me a 2nd stick for my birthday!  Beer  I went to Microcenter and I couldn't find it on the shelf but they had it in the back room.

Way small man! Been looking at the Z97M OC Formula for my next build, but I'm totally focusing on the micro. And DDR3. I'm not maked of money LOL!

I like alot though. NE regrets with the small size? Lol I bet ur hands get cramped in that case!

2011-socket i7-5820k not much more powerful than 1150 socket?  (i7-4790k)....hmmm, no...

The 2011 socket processor may not offer a huge edge in FPS on gaming where the extra cores aren't being fully utilized, but anywhere where multi-tasking, and additional threads are utilized, the 5820k is going to have a big advantage...

Look at cinebench, passmark, etc., scorees...it's pretty hard to beat the 12 threads of a 2011 hex core (or 2011 octo core) with an 8-thread processor like the 1150 socket allows.  No question, this ASRock 2011-itx thing looks like fun.  That is a LOT of processor in a small case...

wondering how long it takes before A- and G-brand boards start copying this idea...

Hey there LOL
I just meant the 5820K isn't too much more expensive than the 4790K...but it definitely has some real grunt, if you will.  I think the price difference is less than $100.

It is a little cramped but basically you just have to take the power supply and the top bracket out in order to reach the motherboard.  It's a few extra screws but not too hard.

Yes -- I don't really know the normal retail prices but I got it at Microcenter for $300 and the i7-4790K is $280.  The only downside is having to pay higher Illinois sales tax and the tolls in that area...

Yeah, not trying to flame you, I just get tired of hearing people say that 2011 is no real advantage over 1150...it is...or it wouldn't existConfused

But you bring up a good point, the 2011 is definitely designed for a performance priority build...

I don't know of any way to get more processing power into ITX which is why I've been following this board with interest lately...just seems like a cool idea really

I was looking for an ITX motherboard for 1366 last time I built a computer but the closest thing I could find was a proprietary Shuttle setup at a really high price.  I'm really glad ASRock came through this time around with a genuine power motherboard for tiny computers.  I'm not sure 2011 really has a practical advantage for my everyday use but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I remember the Shuttles!!

*facepalm*

I think the board you have here looks like a MUCH better option.  The Nehalem processors were freaking spaceheaters...

Hey why did you call this a hexbox. This is a computer right? Can you run xbox stuff with it and can you teach me? I want to use the z97m which is a micro board.

No, sadly no Xbox stuff here.  Maybe when Windows 10 comes out -- I'm looking forward to that, currently on Win7 64-bit.  It's the HexBox because I have/like the Xboxes...and also because it's a HEXacore CPU!  Haha!  My last computer was a dual-core so the jump up to hexacore is a pretty big deal for me.  It's got more threads than simple guy like me knows what to do with.  I don't know much about that motherboard but all of the ASRock mobos I have looked at seem to have good features so you can get Win10 on there and get the upcoming Windows-Xbox integration that Microsoft has been working on.

I want to play Halo on my computer and the xbox at the same time!! Maybe with a hexcore it is possible

Is hexcore or octocore thebest

I loved Halo...Halo 1 and 3, anyway.  I'm sure the computer could do it if they release the game for PC.

Octocore is definitely better but the 5960X costs about three times as much as the 5820K so that was a non-starter for me.
