I have an ASRock Rack C246 WS (just purchased from Newegg). All gear listed here is new.

I populated the mobo with a Xeon E-2134, 64GB of Kingston DDR4-2400 RAM, and the following drives: 2x WD Black 1TB NVMe drives, 5x WD Red Pro 8TB HDD drives, 2x WD Blue SSD drives, and a LG Blu-Ray ODD; the latter two are on the Marvell controllers.

Originally, I had my Reds plugged into SATA ports 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4. I was going to set them up in a RAID5. However, both the WD Red plugged into SATA port 1 and the Black in M.2 port 1 show "not detected" in the BIOS. I have not installed an OS yet.

I moved the Red from SATA port 1, to SATA port 5, and it was detected just fine. However, the drive in M2_1 still remained "not detected".

I swapped the Blacks, moving the one in M2_2 to M2_1 and vice-versa, however, the NVMe drive in M2_1 still remains undetected.

What am I missing? Is there a setting I need to change in the BIOS to configure M2_1 as an NVMEe port?

Thanks!
-Mike

I submitted a ticket for this issue to ASRock. After some troubleshooting I sent the board in. I received a new replacement board earlier this week.

I set it up with the same Xeon E-2134, same 64GB of Kingston DDR4-2400 RAM. GPU is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660. However, drive-wise I only connected 8x WD Red Pro 8TB HDD drives in SATA ports 0-7.

Still the same issue. "SATA_1/M2_1(SATA): Not Detected"

I have tried known working drives and cables in SATA_1. Tried swapping them around with the other working WD drives. I tried a known working SSD in it (verified it was working on another port in the same mobo, and on another computer). I even tried plugging an ODD in SATA_1.

There does not seem to be any combination I can use to get this SATA_1 port to work. And this is the 2nd new mobo with the same issue.

BIOS settings are default. I have not got to the point of installing an OS yet.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

-Mike
