HI, I have a Taichi X370, BIOS Revision: 5.13, AMD Ryzen 7 Version: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 Eight-Core Processor Voltage: 1.2 V External Clock: 100 MHz Max Speed: 3750 MHz Current Speed: 3000 MHz Status: Populated, Enabled Upgrade: Socket AM4 L1 Cache Handle: 0x0010 L2 Cache Handle: 0x0011 L3 Cache Handle: 0x0012 Memory is 32G (4x 8G) TridentZRGB P/N F4-3200C16-8GTZR DDR4-3200 CL16-18-18-38 1.35V Autodetect sets the memory to: Type: DDR4 Type Detail: Synchronous Unbuffered (Unregistered) Speed: 1866 MT/s Configured Memory Speed: 933 MT/s Minimum Voltage: 1.2 V Maximum Voltage: 1.2 V Configured Voltage: 1.2 V If I try to change the BIOS to match the manufacturer specifications I get nasty beeps and a three power off/up cycles before it sets the speed back to it's autodetected defaults. The manual from the website doesn't have a lot of documentation of options in the BIOS (many are not in the PDF) so I'm not sure if there's something else I need to do to get this to work at full speed besides setting the rate, timings and voltage per the memory manufacturer's specs... Any help is appreciated! |

I upgraded to BIOS 5.6, no change. I'm stumped. I have no idea why the BIOS chooses the slowest possible speed for my DDR4 memory. |

Thank you for your response. I'd like to ask what may be a dumb question - I didn't think I was trying to overclock the memory, I was just trying to "clock" it - set it to it's advertised performance. Is what you sent appropriate for non-overclock BIOS settings for memory? I haven't build a machine in awhile, but not so many years ago you'd just set the memory speed appropriately per manufacturer's specs. I will read the information you sent regardless, but wanted to get my head straight first. I don't run Windows (though I have a VM, not sure if that tool will work in it). Hello @luminarycrush Times have changed. Mainly because AMD uses ram differently to Intel, hence most of the XMP on market is mostly for Intel and crashes/can't boot on AMD, but in reality some Intel XMP also crashes on Intel, so what is the correct answer? The motherboard's memory vendor list is the correct answer. In short some rams work on some motherboard and not other motherboard. It's a longer story but I'd stop here. I also do not overclock. I also just run ram at specified sold spec. But you could guess now my ram could not boot using XMP, so I have to use the new information as knowledge and 1usmus calculator and get a starting baseline parameters and input them all manually in order to boot but not windows stable, then slowly find out what other values need to be changed higher against the 1usmus calculator findings. It's not absolute. Quick tips are: - 1) change the primary timing higher 2) always use even number, not odd numbers, i.e. CL 14, 16, 18 etc, because AMD don't like 15, 17, 19 on tCL or CL, other numbers can be EVEN or ODD. 3) actually item 2) is automatically raise if Geardown Mode in Turned On, hence don't turn off yet even web says performance better, for now you want stability first. 4) quick and clean shortcut reading https://www.corsair.com/corsairmedia/sys_master/productcontent/Ryzen3000_MemoryOverclockingGuide.pdf after more than 3 years of diving into this ram calculator thing knowing from nothing, this document truly is the best, it lays the bare minimum and core critical parameters, no nonsense sure fire solution.
