Subject: Z490 Phantom Gaming 4 + Thunderbolt 3 AIC R2

Good Morning,
I purchased new components since I got a Thunderbolt 3 device (Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2) for Home Office. So I decided to go with AsRock.
This are the new components:
MoBo: AsRock Z490 Phantom Gaming 4 - BIOS P1.50 CPU: Intel i7-10700 RAM: 32 GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3000 CL15 SSD: 1000 GB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 GPU: 2 GB MSI GeForce GT 1030 TB3: AsRock Thunderbolt 3 AIC R2.0 OS: Win10 - Build 20H2
So everything went smooth during the installation. Also the Thunderbolt AIC shines with a blue LED at PCIe Slot 4 (PCIe Slot 4 is the recommended slot in the MoBo manual). The DP cable is also connected at the GPU (output) and the TB3 AIC (DP in).
So I enabled "Discrete Thunderbolt support" in BIOS and restarted Windows 10.
And the trouble begins.... :(
The AIC is not shown in the device manager. I installed all drivers without success. I tried different BIOS settings without success. No device is shown at all.
When I connect an USB-C device (external SSD) I can open the folders on the SSD, so the AIC is connected properly at the system. But Thunderbolt is not active :(
I recognized I am missing few BIOS options which are mentioned in the manual.
Here are the Options mentioned in the manual but aren`t shown in the BIOS settings:
SW SMI on TBT hot-plug ACPI Notify on TBT Hot-plug Windows 10 Thunderbolt support
I am very frustrated and disappointed since I purchased the new components only for the supported TB3 and TB3 do not work...
Every help is much appreciated since I need the TB3 Interface urgently. Hopefully I mentioned all necessary information to solve this issue.
Thank you in advance!
Best regards,
Substance

Dear Substance,
Thanks for posting.
Let's try the following steps to get the thunderbolt working:
1. Completely uninstall all the thunderbolt driver and utility, all remaining files need to be removed.
2. Install the Intel thunderbolt DCH. Download link: https://download.asrock.com/Drivers/Intel/Thunderbolt/Intel_Thunderbolt_DCH(v1.41.987.0_U20200819).zip
3. Install the Thunderbolt control center from Microsoft Store. Download Link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/thunderbolt-control-center/9n6f0jv38ph1?activetab=pivot:overviewtab
*Please make sure that the thunderbolt AIC R2.0 is installed in the PCIe4 slot. *For the BIOS setting, only the "Discrete Thunderbolt support" setting needs to be enabled.
With thanks, ASRock TSD

Hello AsRock TSD,
thank you for your quick response. Really appreciate it!
I uninstalled every TB driver and utility (Thunderbolt(v17.4.77.400)) and removed remaining files.
I have downloaded and installed the Intel Thunderbolt DCH.
But when I want to download and install the Thunderbolt Control Center in the App Store I got failure 0x803FB005. I am not able to install the control center.
I am not sure what to do now :(
Any ideas?
Thank you in advance!

Hello again,
I do not know what happened but the dch driver is installed obviously. I uninstalled everything again and installed everything again. Tried it 5 times. Nothing helped. So I changed the setting in the Bios "Security Level" to "No Security" again and restarted Win10. I plugged in the cable of my dockingstation and the computer starts a configuration.
So my Device manager shows the following:
 Thunderbolt(TM) Controller - 15D2
But when I want to install the "thunderbolt control center" from the store I got the following failure code now
 0x8024001E
So Thunderbolt isn`t working properly.
Help is still appreciated!
Thank you in advance.

And hello again,
after lot`s of troubleshooting the TB3 Add-In-Card works and I have installed the Thunderbolt Control Center.
Win10 installed automatically DCH Ver. 1.41.1054.0 afterwards and I was able to install the Control Center after a restart. My Dock is shown in the Control Center now
<blockquote class="imgur-embed-pub" lang="en" data-id="a/aDvGBmr" data-context="false" ><a href="//imgur.com/a/aDvGBmr"></a></blockquote><script async src="//s.imgur.com/min/embed.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Everything works fine besides DisplayPort/HDMI at the Dock. Do I have to configure something in the BIOS to use the Ports at the Dock through the TB3 Add-In-Card? The DisplayPort Out of the GPU is connected with die DP In at the TB3 AIC R2 as mentioned in the manual. Or should the Video Outputs at the Dock work immediately?
Otherwise I have to contact the Lenovo Support in this case.
Thank you for your support! I really appreciate it!
Best regards,

SOLVED!
Port 1 is the solution for Video Output. No video out at Port 2. Everything is working now at Port 1.
