Hi,

This is strange, it's a windows 7 thing.

I own a venerable Fatal1ty FM2A88X+ Killer. One monitor is connected to the DVI port, that is my main monitor, display 1. A TV is connected to the VGA port to watch videos, etc as display 2.

The TV is OFF (disconnected from AC mains) most of the time. Except when I need it

Whenever I run linux, It's OK, the display is shown on my monitor even though the TV is unplugged.

However when I run windows, the displays on the monitor turns itself OFF when windows is booting unless the TV is plugged in. The current setup is only display 1 is active (the monitor). If I decide to unplug the TV, even though it's not active, the monitor turns itself off as well.

This is extremely annoying, I would like te leave the TV unplugged when I don't need it.

Is there a known solution?

I would say upgrade to windows 7 SP3 or use windows10.
Linux is simple the kernel is generic so whatever BIOS the system can boot even on bios less computers like PI4B.
Windows on other head looks to the computer bios, and fiddling in the bios has an impact on windows far less then linux if and only if the system is updated? My other computer runs on Linux mint this one for the company windows10 pro. I must admit windows10 fresh install finds more drivers compared with windows7 and sure windows update far better. Microsoft ended support for windows 7 so it's a risky OS and need a updated driver only from manufacturers.

Note Microsoft will still create critical updates but small updates no way that's done for windows 7

The latest windows 7 version is SP3, service packs are major overhaul , why didn't You install sp2 and later sp3 in the first place and it's a fact that Microsoft ended support for windows 7 but You can upgrade for free to windows10 which is very stable and this version will receive all updates.
Visit windows update and hope that sp3 is still available, install this first before something is not working.

No updates for 7 except very critical updates or KB updates.
So expect cracks in the OS in the coming year.

If it's windows7 pro 64 bit, then you still can update for free to windows10 pro 64 bit. If windows 10 works buggy, You still can go back to windows7.

Note main board manufacturers stopped windows7 updates also so You will find only older software.

So who is playing with You, You did forgot to update. period

I choose not to update on purpose. Windows 10 is the worst version since Vista and Windows 8. One must be stupid to install it after reading its licence. I guess all windows 10 users will rush to get the deadly depopulation COVID 19 vaccine.

Windows 7 SP3 never existed. That SP3 thing was for Windows XP.

And I still run laptops with XP because it was a very good OS, like windows 7. One should care to patch it to support TLS 1.2 and you're fine if FF 47 is enough for your needs. I use those laptops all the time when I travel.

Lastly if you're skilled enough to know how to secure a computer properly, Windows 7 is the best windows ever made. Period. And it's so old that nobody takes the time to try to hack into it.
