I have several W10 systems and only one, that I'm aware of, has this obsession to automatically restart itself from a shutdown state after exactly 24 hours. I have checked this behavior for four 24 hour periods and it does it every time. All of the systems have about the same software and the same tasks in Task Manager. In fact, I have two systems with almost exactly the same hardware (Z97 Extreme6/4790K, BIOS Version P2.50), Sandisk Extreme Pro 240GB boot drive etc.) - one restarts itself and the other does not. Both systems have a relatively new fresh install of W10 v1511. I don't know if this is a W10 or a Z97 Extreme6 BIOS issue but I sure would appreciate some suggestions on where or what I should be looking at to make the problem system behave "normally".

Not getting much help with this issue!  (Also Posted on Ten Forums)

Just to add to my woes, I now have two machines that restart themselves EXACTLY 24 hours to the second after they have been SHUTDOWN. The problem has probably been on both systems all along I just never paid close attention to why they were in sleep mode - I just assumed I forgot to shut them down! Both systems are built on an ASRock Z97 Extreme6 MB and a 4790K processor running with default BIOS settings. Both systems have a relatively fresh install of W10 v1511. I have two other systems built on an ASRock Z77 Extreme4 MB with a 3770K processor and a 2600K processor. Neither of these two systems have the problem. All four systems have the same software installed! I can't believe I'm the only one in the world with this issue, minor though it may be?

Hmm, an easy way to test if it is the system or the OS:

1. Shut down the system and disconnect the drives from the motherboard.
2. Wait 24h and see if the system powers itself on again
3. If yes, turn off again and wait another 24h and see if it repeats this.

If it is the system itself then step 3 should power the system on 24h later, if not it should remain off.

To be absolutely sure you can

4. Turn off the system leaving the drives disconnected.
5. Disconnect the power.
6. Clear CMOS using http://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=630&title=how-to-clear-cmos-via-battery-removal" rel="nofollow - this method.
7. Power the system and enter BIOS.
8. Turn off using the power button.
9. Wait 24h and see if it powers up.

If the system powers on after clearing CMOS with no drives connected then it is a system related issue. I highly doubt it will prove to be the case but the above steps will definitively determine where the issue is coming from so at least you will know where to seek further assistance.

Good luck

Problem solved!  Disabled the Intel Smart Connect Technology option in the BIOS and the Reboot issue goes away.  Apparently the ASRock Extreme6 BIOS implementation of the Z97 chip is a little different than the Extreme4 Z77 implementation.  The Default setting on both MB's was Enabled yet the Z77's (at least mine) don't have the Reboot "problem".  The guys on the Malwarebytes Forum jumped all over me when I tried to blame that program.  They directed me to the BIOS issue almost immediately!

No idea why Smart Connect is not starting your other PC, but that's how it works. Start the PC to update your email, etc, so you don't need to wait for it to happen when you are ready to use the PC. I don't see how useful that is with our current PCs and Internet, but I suppose someone uses it.

I'm so used to disabling that option that I don't even think about it.

That's why I use UEFI/BIOS profiles, to restore my settings after a UEFI clear. A UEFI update requires us to rebuild our profiles, and I pretty much burn right through all the options in the Advanced screen like a robot to set them "right" for me.
