I just finished building my new pc
mobo: asrock z170m pro4s
cpu: i5 6600
ram: crucial 8gb
video card: gtx 980
psu: evga 650g

I made sure everything was plugged in. made sure the psu worked with the testing tool it came with

double checked everything was plugged in right.
all the fans are running well.
but I get no post, no beep, no image on my monitor or tv.

i also tried plugging the hdmi cable into the mobo and the vid card and nothing aswell.

also, i'm not sure but I think my screen flashes for a quick instance when i power it on but then it goes back to "no cable connected" on my tv/monitor.

any ideas? i feel like i'm doing something wrong.

Welcome to the forums Smile

First up I would remove the gtx 980 and try with the iGPU and see if you have any luck posting with that. Also double check your power connections and make sure you have the correct cables connected to the correct inputs. I have on occasion seen people accidentally connect a PCIe power cable to the 8 pin CPU power connector.

Your CPU is supported on all BIOS versions for that board since it's release so that is not the issue. Could you list your RAM model for us please.

Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB Single DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) CL16 DR x8 Unbuffered DIMM 288-Pin

I checked all the wires and everything's plugged in where it should be

I don't believe any parts are messed up so I think just something isn't placed right

I got the same problem:

Processor: Intel i3-6300
memory: 4 sticks of Crucial Balistix 4GB DDR4-2400 UDIMM 1/2V

Power supply checked good by plugging into another board
LCD display OK
No post on either on-board HDMI or DVI
Very certain that the CPU and memory sticks are seated and all power supply cables correct.
fans run but nothing else.
Tried clearing CMOS as well

OK so looking at the RAM support page for the Z170M Pro4s it appears that RAM, BLS4G4D240FSA, is supported by the board.

Have you tried disconnecting everything from the board other than CPU, RAM and PSU (including all peripherals) and powering the system on?

If that fails then make sure you have a PC speaker connected to the speaker header on the motherboard (not to the audio jacks) it should be located near the front panel header for the power and reset buttons. Once you have a speaker connected remove the RAM and see if you get a RAM error beep code. If you get a beep code then it is likely that for whatever reason the system does not like your RAM. If you do not get any beeps then pull the CPU and check for bent pins in the socket. If the CPU is seated correctly and functional you should get a beep code with no RAM installed, if you do not receive a beep code it means the CPU is not initializing and allowing the post process to begin.

If you get a RAM error beep code with the RAM removed from the system then your next step is to try and get your hands on some different RAM to test with, preferably something from the support list of a different brand. If the other RAM allows you to post then you can go ahead and update your BIOS to the latest version and try the original RAM again on the new BIOS.
